County Cup Defeat on Penalties

After Leicester City Ladies heroics last week in the FA Cup it was now the County Cup and the draw produced the toughest task against holders Leicester City Women.
A well fought out cup tie saw Leicester City take the lead with twenty minutes to go through a fine individual goal from Kyleigh Brant. The home team tried to hang on but Leicester City Women forced extra time with a late equaliser.
Extra time was end to end with chances at both ends but it was Leicester City Women who snatched the tie on penalties 4-5.
Overall another impressive performance from Leicester City Ladies, although penalties is a cruel way to loose nothing but positives for two weeks of hard work. 210 minutes versus National and Premier league opposition and City did not look out of place these last two weeks and on another day may have won both ties.

Leicester City Ladies manager Matt Cook commented after the game “Once again the team rise to the occasion, most people over the last two games would of expected us to be on the end of two heavy defeats and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Last week we were a foot away from extra time against Cardiff City and today we were one penalty away from knocking the cup holders for eight years out of the competition at the first hurdle. Although technically two defeats, it has been one of the most recognisable two weeks of recent times and for me strangely two of the most enjoyable as the progression is exemplary to smaller clubs and a true credit to our players. We look forward now to a big end to our league campaign.”
