Fine Result in Return to Action

After cancellations of fixtures due to weather conditions Leicester City Ladies finally got back into action in game at Doncasters Keepmoat Stadium.
Last time out City were undone by champions Stoke City in a 4-0 away defeat however City have never lost two domestic games in a row under Cook and the players recorded a fantastic away result in the race for second spot.
Played on training pitches at the Keepmoat was far from perfect and delayed kick off due to the pitch not being correct was the last thing Leicester City Ladies needed after a long journey on a Tuesday night. Both teams started brightly, Cat pulled off a fine save from a one v one position with both Hillier and Edwards having chances at the other end for the away side but no one could break the deadlock on a huge training pitch being used.
Second half was much better from Leicester City Ladies and on the half hour Hillier burst through the offside trap and finished excellently across the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. Hillier was at it again on 75 minutes as she looped the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper to make it two for City and two fine pieces of finishing from herself.
City seemed to panic to a comfortable position and gave Rotherham hope as the winger stole in at the back post to half the scoreline.
However it was Leicester City Ladies day and what a great result in the fight for second between three sides beneath Stoke in the Midland Combination.
Leicester City Ladies manager Matt Cook commented after the game “The set up for the game was poor so the players did so well to keep focused as the temperatures dropped. I actually don’t think we played that well tonight but we worked so hard for the result and that’s all that matters at this end of the season. Two of the best finishes of the season from Kayleigh and the back four and goalkeeper were immense, and overall everyone’s commitment was great. Now we have set ourselves up nice with three games to go and I remember when I met everyone we were fighting to get away from the bottom two now we are fighting for the top places, great turn around and hopefully we can achieve our goal.”
