Ladies defeat Women

It was a battle of the two female sides residing in Leicester and the first time they have met in a league situation since 2009.
The match was always going to be lively and competitive with two good sides competing on the day. Leicester City Women had a chance to take the lead with a one v one which went wide of Cattels post. Eva Rogers then had a chance for Leicester Ladies but could only find the keepers hand. Leicester City Women had a couple of free kicks with Preston and Burbidge for Leicester City Ladies all tried to break the deadlock but no to avail. The home side probably looking better in possession.
Second half Leicester City Ladies squeezed the game more and dominating the ball, the away side always threatening on the break with two good centre forwards. Leicester City Ladies made the break through however as a quick move in to Rodgers feet who played in Hillier who finished high and powerfully over the keeper from what looked an impossible angle.
Leicester City Women had two goal line scrambles to level but Ladies were brave to hold on to their clean sheet and a vital victory.
Overall a tight encounter but one in which fell the right way, Whalley ,Preston and Rudkin dominated in possession, a solid back four and pace in attack or was a good all round team performance for a very pleased Leicester City Ladies manager Matt Cook who commented after the game “There is obviously a lot made of the game Leicester v Leicester but really that was never important it was all about my girls and applying themselves to a tough match. That will rank as one of best for me purely for the reason every player was so brave in possession and played with such enthusiasm. Win , loose or draw tonight they deserve credit but I’m delighted they got the win that I truly think the performance merited.”
