Midland Combination Finale

Leicester City Ladies knew a point would secure the second spot in the Midland Combination away to Leafield Athletic, played on a Thursday evening under the lights. It was a bad start for City as Leafields movement causes not end of problems for the Leicester City Ladies defence and two quick goals sunk the away teams hearts and opened the door for Radcliffe Olympic to gate crash the party. Hillier, Whalley and Scott all limped off injured but Leicester City Ladies make a go of the second half, some very direct football was needed and Leicester just couldn’t get a break.
Leicester City Ladies now had to wait until Sunday to find out their fate and a 3-0 Leafield over Radcliffe Olympic win kept Leicester second and on the same day the reserves under Carl Westbury reached the cup final while still chasing the title it was a great day for the club.
Leicester City Ladies season 2011/12 saw the girls claim the best league season ever! This season they have beaten their own records and took seven more points to set a new standard at the club.
Congratulations to all!
Leicester City Ladies manager Matt Cook commented “Over three years ago when I was introduced to the team we had a result at Leafield and then had to play the waiting game to see others results on the Sunday. On that occasion it was to not be in the bottom two and be relegated. This time it was the wait on the top two. Quite a remarkable story and one of such good memories of a good bunch of girls. I’m pleased they have finally been recognised as a good side! We may not be able to have the pulling power of other clubs to attract players but a group has been formed of local regional players, older heads and one or two transfers to form a talented team and I’m delighted for them and the whole football club.”
