Unbeaten Run Ends

After a bright start to the season Leicester City Ladies surrendered their unbeaten run under the lights at Copeswood.
The home team were in front after 1 minute from a deflected corner they made it two from loose ball play from City on 25 minutes. City had good chances through Hillier and Brant that went agonisingly wide .
Second half Copeswood were out to protect their 2 goals. Only a dozen times did Copeswood make it into Leicester City Ladies final third and that was on the break which keeper Cat and back four did well against their pace.
Chances were galore for Leicester City Ladies all so close although Copeswood worked hard and a park the team bus mentality of defending made it hard for City. Finally Leicester City Ladies got a break through on 35 minutes with Gemma Ball hitting home a penalty. Maybe just that bit to late though as City’s overwhelming second half dominance just could not carve out the equaliser they deserved.
Overall possession stats of the second half would be interested as it was a very dominant away performance and even one of City’s best all season. A two goal start did not help but a courageous fight back deserved so much more. Manager Matt Cook commented “To say our first defeat is on October 17th after a season that started August 28th is a incredible statement. Anybody in our squad would of been made up with that if would of offered us that in July. It’s putting things into perspective and being honest with ourselves and although no one wants to loose we look forward to Sunday and I compliment my squad for the last couple of months. As for tonight lots to learn from the first half but second half I was a proud manager watching their passion to each other and the club.”
