Lucky 13

Leicester City Ladies faced newcomers to the league Attleborough Sports in their fourth league game of the season. Unfortunately Attleborough Sports were only able to field 7 players due to illness which meant it was a very one sided game.
Leicester City Ladies came out of the blocks quickly and were three up inside ten minutes with a hat trick from striker Jade. Lauren and Foxy both added two goals each before half time with Leicester City Ladies playing some good football. In the 25th minute Attleborough Sports got a free kick which deflected into the Leicester net to make it 7-1. Despite only having 7 players Attleborough Sports looked to go forward and their lively captain was causing some problems for Leicester City Ladies with her pace and determination. Leicester City Ladies managed to add one more goal before half time with a quality finish from Olivia.
Half Time: Attleborough Sports 1 LCLFC 8
Leicester City Ladies started the second half in the same vein but Atlleborough Sports continued to battle and never made it easy for Leicester. Tamzin scored a fantastic individual goal to make it 9-1 on 33 minutes and Jade and Lauren added a goal each soon after to take Leicester into double figures. With only a few minutes remaining and Attleborough Sports tiring badly Foxy scored two good goals, one coming from a fantastic pass from Megan and the other a fine individual goal.

First Team Leave it Late

Leicester City Ladies maintained their unbeaten run but only just after a good match against Radcliffe Olympic at Linwood Park.
Leicester City Ladies first half performance was lack lustre and the visitors played well and deservedly took the lead with a fine finish. City slowly got back into to the game and had opportunities to score but all to no avail.
Second half the home team worked hard But Olympic were always dangerous on the break. Leicester City Ladies had the better of the game second half without playing great football. After knocking on the door numerous times in the second half it just wouldn’t go in for Leicester but a foul on Hillier in stoppage time gave City a penalty which Gemma Ball finished into the corner to earn a point.
Overall not a great performance from Leicester City Ladies but a hard working one and a point is probably about right as both teams competed well in a tough game.

3 out of 3

In their third league game of the season Leicester City Ladies faced their rivals from last season Oadby & Wigston United. Leicester City Ladies were high on confidence going into the game after their impressive start to the season but knew that this would be a test for them.
The first five minutes were very scrappy from both teams with Oadby & Wigston United just edging it. Leicester City Ladies settled their nerves on seven minutes with the first goal of the game when Molly’s left foot shot flew into the top corner. Just a few minutes later Jade doubled Leicester City Ladies lead with a cool finish after the an inch perfect through ball from Tamzin. Leicester City Ladies were now playing a lot better and having more possession of the ball, on sixteen minutes Leicester made it 3-0 when the Oadby & Wigston United goalkeeper was unable to hold onto a fierce shot from Lauren. Leicester City Ladies defended solidly, worked hard for each other and continued to create chances on goal, they got their just rewards when on twenty three minutes Foxy got their fourth with a good finish. Leicester City Ladies were unlucky not to extend their lead further going close on numerous occasions.
Half Time: LCLFC 4 Oadby & Wigston United 0
Leicester City Ladies knew that Oadby & Wigston United would come out fighting in the second half and they did just that. They were having more of the ball and putting Leicester City Ladies under a bit of pressure, Leicester still looked dangerous going forward and striker Jade, who had caused problems all game got Leicester’s fifth goal on forty two minutes. This seemed to spur Oadby & Wigston United on and they began pushing forward looking for a goal, which they deservedly got in the forty seventh minute. Leicester City Ladies goalkeeper Viv then made a brilliant save at the feet of the Oadby & Wigston United player to prevent any further goals. Oadby & Wigston United were definitely on top now but Leicester City Ladies continued to battle until the end.
Final Score:LCLFC 5 Oadby & Wigston United 1

A fantastic first half performance from Leicester City Ladies effectively won the game. The second half was scrappy and lacked the quality we are used to seeing from Leicester City Ladies but that should not take away from a great win and an important three points.

Disappointing Defeat

Leicester City Ladies (2010) v Bedworth Eagles Girls

In what proved to be a very close game Leicester City Ladies were slow to get going but there were few chances for both teams. Leicester City Ladies came close to opening the scoring when Emily won the ball in midfeild and played the ball to Jenna on the right of the penalty area, Jennas shot was parried by the keeper but Megan couldn’t force the loose ball goalwards.
Leicester City Ladies were made to pay for this as Bedworth won a throw in deep in the Leicester half, from which Bedworth crossed into the box which went in at the near post.
Half Time:Leicester Ladies 0 Bedworth Eagles 1
The second half carried on, similar to the first as both teams were cancelling each other out in a midfield battle. When the strikers got near goal both defences stood firm. Leicester City Ladies were made to pay again as they switched off after a Bedworth throw in, the ball was half cleared, where the Bedworth player sent a high ball into the Leicester area, after a high bounce the ball ended up in the Leicester net. With time running out Leicester City Ladies pushed forward to try and get something from the game. Olivia broke from midfield battling with the Bedworth defender, the referee awarded Leicester a free kick on the left hand side just outside of the Bedworth penalty area. Chloe stepped up and took the free kick sending it over the wall and into the roof of the net. With only a few minutes left time ran out as Leicester went in search of an equaliser.

Despite the scoreline another good performance from the girls. Who on another day may have won this game by the odd goal.

Firsts Hit Nine

After a strange few days that saw the fixture reversed at late notice Leicester City Ladies took full advantage and hit Northampton Town for nine at Linwood Park.
Brant started the scoring direct from a corner which ended up in the far post. the second goal came from a Kilby delivery and was headed in by Clarke before Hillier and Bateman made it four at the interval.
Second half Leicester City Ladies possession was superb in poor conditions and they soon went five up through Brant. Hillier and Bateman went on to make it seven and after a bizarre own goal Scott hit a superb free kick to make it nine.
Overall a great day for Leicester City Ladies who showed real quality on the ball today and remain unbeaten in all competitions so far. Now they face promotion chasers Radcliffe and Curzon back to back in their next two fixtures.

Safe Progress in County Cup

This week saw Leicester City Ladies face Harborough Town in the 1st round of the Couty Cup in one of only two ties.
Leicester City Ladies started the first ten minutes very slowly and really struggled to get their normal passing going. Leicester City Ladies finally came to life after fifteen minutes when Foxy put them in front and Lauren soon doubled their lead after a good corner from Laura dropped to her on the edge of the box. Strikers Tamzin and Olivia were both working hard to try and make chances but the Harborough Town defence were tough and made it very hard for them. Leicester City Ladies made it 3 with the best move of the game, a slick passing move ended with an inch perfect finish from Lauren, giving the goalkeeper no chance. Leicester City Ladies were now having their best spell of the game and were unlucky not to increase their lead further, hitting both the post and the bar in a matter of seconds! Harborough Town continued to battle and made Leicester City Ladies work for every ball.
Half Time: LCLFC 3 Harborough Town 0
The second half started much the same as the first with Leicester City Ladies slightly off the pace and struggling to find any consistency. The game became a bit of a battle which suited Harborough Town much more. Leicester City Ladies switched off and Harborough Town looked a lot sharper going forward, Leicester’s defence stood firm and goalkeeper Viv stayed on her toes and was on hand to make saves when needed. Leicester City Ladies were still enjoying the majority of the possession but their final ball was letting them down. Leicester City Ladies did finally get their fourth goal when Foxy followed in her own shot which the goalie fumbled and Foxy was on hand to head home.

Not Leicester City Ladies best performance but a good win and another clean sheet. Leicester City Ladies are back in league action next week with a tough game against Oadby & Wigston United.

Second Victory in Four Days

On a strange afternoon at Linwood Park Leicester City Ladies picked up their second victory in four days, with Leamington Lions this the opponents.
Leicester City Ladies took the lead within a minute through Bateman, Lions quickly equalised after pouncing on a defensive mistake. Hillier and another Gemma Ball penalty gave City a 3-1 half time lead.
It was not a great game of football and in fact credit to the away team who played decent football and never gave in even when Hillier and sub Guyler made it five to Leicester City Ladies. Leamington Lions hit back with two more goals of their own before Guyler and Hillier wrapped up seven for Leicester City Ladies.
Overall a strange game of football, Leicester City Ladies could of been out of sight many times but credit to a hard working Lions side. Positively another three points for Leicester City Ladies as they look forward to an away trip to Northampton next Sunday.

Victory Under the Lights

Under the lights at Linwood, which always creates a good atmosphere, Leicester City Ladies hit their second win in four days this time securing league points against high flyers Copeswood who will not be far away from the title this year.
Copeswood started brighter and most of the first half their pace and quick play was causing Leicester City Ladies problems. They took the lead on 35 minutes with a fine finish and Gage made a superb clearance off the line chasing back to keep the score tight.
Second half was more even with Leicester City Ladies taking a bigger part in the play. Copeswood were always quick on the break keeper Cat and the back four for City were superb. Leicester City Ladies were awarded their second penalty in two successive league games , this time Gemma Ball hit the net to level the scores.
It almost had the feel of a cup tie with a lot of end to end action. Fortunately the one chance was enough and that fell to Laura Toon who finished from close rang to steal the points.
Overall a tight game with a lot of quality, the points were fantastic to be achieved against a very good side in Copeswood.
Leicester City Ladies Player of the Match: Lauren Gage

Solid Home Win

Leicester City Ladies were looking to build on the previous weeks opening day victory with a home game against AFC Barwell.
Both teams were cancelling each other out in the early stages, but as the half wore on Leicester City Ladies started to use the width of the pitch with Natasha on the left and Jenna on the right. Natasha unlucky not to open the scoring after meeting a cross from Jenna, her shot just clearing the crossbar. After more good work on the right from Jenna, Megan just could not get on the end of the cross into the penalty area. At the other end of the pitch the Leicester City Ladies defence stood firm and protected their goal with some strong defending and timely tackles.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies (2010) 0 AFC Barwell 0
Leicester City Ladies could not have wished for a better start to the second half as Olivia returned a goal kick straight back into the bottom right hand corner, 1-0 to Leicester. Within ten minutes of the restart Olivia had completed her hat trick, her second a cool low finish into the bottom left corner, to complete her hat trick she was first to a bouncing ball in the AFC Barwell area and headed over the keeper to make it 3-0. Leicester City Ladies went on to score a fourth through Megan with a calm low strike from inside the area. Not to be outdone by her sister Chloe then rounded off the scoring with a neat finish after picking the ball up outside the area and driving into the penalty box to score.

Another good performance from the girls who defended strongly and took their chances in the second half. The girls should take confidence from the first two games into the rest of the season. The new players who have joined us are settling in to league football and as a squad the girls are adapting to the nine aside format.

League Cup Victory

This was only Leicester City Ladies second competitive game of the season and saw them starting another cup journey all ready.
It was a slow start from Leicester City Ladies and it was Loughborough Students who took the lead from a corner kick which was headed in at the back post. Sam Clarke levelled the score for Leicester City Ladies just before the break.
Second half was better from Leicester City Ladies, much more creative and carving out decent chances. Gemma Ball gave City the lead after fine work from Tori Allen inside the box. A stunning header from Hillier getting on the end of superb Kilby deliver and a corner kick from Scott that found the far corner rounded off a first round win for City.
Overall a patchy game played in a good spirit on a very warm afternoon. Leicester City Ladies worth their second round place and in the end a decent performance to go with it.

Impressive Victory

The game kicked off with Leicester City Ladies on the front foot from the off. In the first minute Foxy finished off a good passing move to set the visitors on their way. Leicester City Ladies were completely dominating the play and found the Cosby Cats keeper in good form. However Leicester City Ladies soon extended their lead with their flowing passing football scoring through Jade on 12 and 14 minutes then Lauren on 16 minutes to put the visitors 4-0 up halfway through the first half. Further goals from Jade 21 minutes, completing her hat trick, Foxy 29 minutes and Lauren 30 minutes made it 7-0 and highlights how well Leicester City Ladies had played in the 1st half even in the searing heat.

Also a big thank you to Reuben for warming up the girls before the match and Carl for refereeing the match at such short notice as the proper ref got the wrong kick off time!!!

Leicester City Ladies came out for the second half strongly and created numerous chances to increase their lead, but came up against a very good goalkeeper on the day. Chloe and Olivia had good efforts from distance but were denied by the keeper. Solid Opening to League Campaign

Leicester City Ladies started their campaign two weeks later than most in a solid fashion by holding league title favourites Stoke City at home 0-0.
Stoke City started the brighter with high balls causing Leicester City Ladies problems, but City battled back and a good passing move carved out a penalty for the home side, only to see the resulting spot kick saved.
It was an even first half with chances at both ends .
Second half Stoke City again started the brighter, but as the half progressed Leicester City Ladies came back into the game and some fine saves from the Stoke City goalkeeper kept it all square.
Overall a pleasing day for Leicester City Ladies on their first competitive outing of the new campaign.
Manager Matt Cook commented after the game “On the opening day every manager wants to look organised, not concede and get some points so really I can’t ask for much more. My players today were excellent, I hope season 2012/13 is a fruitful one for them as they are a great bunch with a good work ethic and commitment to Leicester City Ladies.”

Perfect Start for Under 13s

Leicester City Ladies started the new season with a visit from league newcomers Bedworth Eagles Gems.
The first ten minutes were scrappy with neither team getting hold of the ball. Leicester City Ladies did make the break through after twelve minutes when Olivia scored from long range. Leicester City Ladies began to get into their stride and started to pass the ball around confidently. The defence were solid and mopped up any attacks that Bedworth Eagles had. Leicester City Ladies soon extended their lead with two good finishes, first from Jade and then Olivia with her second of the game. Leicester City Ladies were really playing well at this point and Bedworth Eagles were struggling to cope with the speed and quality of Leicester’s play. The fourth goal came from Tamzin on her league début and was thoroughly deserved after some fantastic work down the left hand side. Leicester City Ladies fifth and sixth goals both came before half time with Jade completing her hat trick with a good finish and a well taken header.
Half Time: LCLFC 6 Bedworth Eagles Gems 0
As expected Bedworth Eagles came out fighting in the second half and made the game much more difficult for Leicester. Leicester City Ladies continued to work hard as a team and tried to play their passing game as much as possible. Foxy increased Leicester City Ladies lead to seven with a well worked goal and Captain Lauren quickly added their eighth with an unstoppable shot after a mazy run, capping a brilliant all round performance. Leicester City Ladies still had time for one more goal through a sweet left foot strike from Tamzin.

An all round brilliant team performance from Leicester City Ladies with some sparks of individual quality thrown in. The girls kept their shape brilliantly and seem to be adapting to nine a side football with ease. Well Done Girls!
Also well done to Bedworth Eagles Gems for a good competitive game, played in the right spirit by both teams. Bedworth Eagles never gave up and were much improved in the second half. We wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.
