Hard Fought Win

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds kept their unbeaten run going with a battling and hard fought 2-1 victory against Harborough Town. After last week’s impressive display the Diamonds were looking to carry on where they left off. However Harborough Town hadn’t read the scrip and dominated the 1st half with a powerful and impressive display that had the Diamonds on the back foot from the off. Harborough Town deservedly took the lead in the first five minutes and were in control for the majority of the 1st half and had a 2nd goal disallowed with a tight offside decision. The Diamonds were happy to get in at half time only 1-0 down.

After a “kick up the bum” from the Joint Managers the Diamonds came out in a much more determined and positive mood and at last put their opponents under pressure.  With Lauren showing her guts and courage she inspired the Diamonds to a much improved display. Olivia D and Lucy were commanding in defence and Harborough Town were finding the Diamonds a much different proposition to the 1st half. After two surging runs and shots by Lauren went over the bar the Diamonds finally equalised with twenty minutes to go with a left foot lob from Lauren finding the net. This spurred the Diamonds on further and a mazy run by Lauren saw the keeper make a brave save and Olivia C followed up to score but this time an equally tight decision ruled the goal offside. However the Diamonds wouldn’t be denied and after Lauren was fouled on the edge of the area Lucy stepped up a curled a great left foot free kick into the top corner to put the Diamonds 2-1 up with ten minutes to go. With Harborough Town still battling away and Leicester City Ladies Diamonds Lauren forced off badly injured the Diamonds’ team stuck to their task and defended for their lives to preserve a 2-1 victory.
Overall it was a great 2-1 victory and showed that the Diamonds never give up and have a never say die attitude even against bigger and stronger opponents. Harborough Town will feel aggrieved though as overall a draw would have been the right and fair result. Now onto next week and the eagerly awaited clash with Oadby & Wigston Rovers.

Impressive Diamonds Reach County Cup Final

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds reached the County Cup Final with an impressive 8-0 victory away to Asfordby Amateurs. On a frosty morning the Diamonds showed both their footballing and battling skills in a solid first half display. The Diamonds went 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes with two good finishes from Lauren. With Leicester dominant in all areas of the pitch it was no surprise that D’shayney added two more good finishes before half time to give the Diamonds a deserved 4-0 lead at the break.
Half Time: Asfordby Amateurs 0 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 4
The second half started similarly to the first and the Diamonds took full control unlike the previous week when they let Asfordby Amateurs back into the game. Jenna scored a poachers goal to make it 5-0 then Olivia D went on a mazy run and finished with a good shot to make it 6-0. With Diamond’s defence keeping their concentration Asfordby Amateurs were never given a foothold in the game. Leicester City Ladies Diamonds increased their lead to 7-0 with another poacher’s goal from Jenna and Lauren completed her hat-trick with a 20 yard finish to make the final score 8-0. The girls should be very proud of themselves as it was a very impressive display and they deserve their Final against Oadby Owls in April at Holmes Park after beating Oadby and Wigston Rovers in the last round as well.

Firsts Cruise Through to Semis

The County Cup quarter final draw for Leicester City Ladies was kinder this year than last as they faced Leicestershire side Ashfordby Amateurs. In their previous match Asahfordby had held unbeaten Heather until late in the game in a 3-2 defeat City knew they had to approach the game right and they did just that.
Early goals from Preston and Hillier set the tone and the home side led 7-1 at half time with Ashfordby Amateurs goal coming from a well worked corner.
Second half Leicester City Ladies dominated again and five more goals gave them a solid 12-1 win. Leicester City Ladies Manager Matt cook commented “It was nice to avoid the bigger teams for once in this competition, obviously we can’t avoid them forever but I think a game like this gives us time to prepare new things, get players minutes on the pitch and time to recover from injuries. Score line is irrelevant really I was most pleased with the attitude and respect to the game from every one of my team. Player of the match, I have no idea but I should really give it to Chiv who scored a wonderful goal with a mazy dribble and chip over the keeper”
City now travel to play Leicester Women in the semi finals.

Fosse 6 Oadby 2

Another cold Sunday afternoon saw the meeting of Leicester Fosse and Oadby & Wigston. Both teams started well with early chances either side, however superb goalkeeping by both sides took tensions higher. A great knock forward saw Carmelina Colangelo open the scoring with a great strike to the bottom right corner. Another quickly followed with a superb strike by Lucy Cooper bringing her tally to eight for the season. With some lovely passing play by the Fosse Ladies, Kate Lewis scored the 3rd for the first half after neatly following up on the keeper to tap it home.
The second half saw Oadby & Wigston putting on the pressure however another neat goal by Carmelina pushed Leicester Fosse out of reach. The Oadby girls pushed and a superb cross from the right saw Oadbys first goal with a neat header into the net. Another Oadby goal quickly followed, allowing a confidence boost in the opposition. Leicester Fosse kept a cool head and kept the battle alive and another two fantastic goals by Carmelina took the final result to 6-2. Well done to both teams!

Hard Earned Point

Tori-Dee AllenLeicester City Ladies first away game saw them take a hard earned point and a good reaction to last weeks home defeat where once again City deserved more.
First half was even scored but City were on top with possession and chances, set plays were Mansfield Towns best chance.
Second half was in favour of the away side again however it was the home team who took the lead with a scrappy goal. Leicester City Ladies reaction was excellent and Tori Allen hit a twenty yard strike to level the game. Kehinde Oyebamisi and Kayleigh Hiller both had chances to win the game late on for Leicester City Ladies. Credit to City for their fight back and overall performance.
After The game Leicester City Ladies manager Matt Cook commented “It’s been a strange season and again we were unable to select around six players due to injuries etc and today we were excellent. It was a game we should have won and to go one nil down was a unbelievable. I have nothing but compliments to the team though and the way we played on the ball.”

Diamonds Keep Unbeaten Run Going

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds kept their unbeaten run going with a 5-3 victory over Asfordby Amateurs which was their 9th win out of 10 League games. Diamonds with only 12 players fit played one of their best games of the season with a good footballing display. Against a well organised Asfordby side the Diamonds took control of the 1st half and deservedly went in front in the 18th minute with a lovely shot from Laura. They doubled their lead in the 26th minute when a superb corner by Molly was headed in by Lauren. The Diamonds were now knocking the ball around nicely and D’shayney made it 3-0 with a lovely curling shot that gave the keeper no chance. The defence of Eleni, Olivia D, Beth and Shania were snuffing out any Asfordby attacks and Jocelyn touched the ball for the first time a minute before half time such was the Diamonds dominance.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 3 Asfordby Amateurs 0
The 2nd half was a bit more of an even affair with Asfordby putting up a good fight and never giving up and they were looking a bit more lively up front. However after 50 minutes D’shayney made it 4-0 with a neat finish and Megan scored a superb 30 yarder after 57 minutes and the game seemed won. However Asfordby didn’t give up and with the Diamonds players and management already thinking the game was won the Diamonds got sloppy and the Asfordby striker took advantage of this a scored a 15 minute hat-trick to make the final score 5-3. This was a bit harsh on the Diamonds as they deserved a bigger victory but fair play must go to Asfordby who never gave up.
This game will be a lesson for the girls and management to keep their focus for the whole 80 minutes in future!

Fosse Start New Year with a Victory

Leicester Fosse Ladies started the new year how they mean to go on. We were met with a cold and windy day with boggy conditions but with a high spirit and confident attitude the Ladies were set for the first game of the new year. The first half saw some great passing from left to right and good link up play with Carmelina and Lucy at the top of the pitch, Lucy’s left footed shot into the bottom corner took the Fosse Ladies up by 1 goal after 20 minutes. Syston Ladies showed pace on the wings but a confident defence line from the Fosse Ladies kept Syston at bay. Despite the conditions the Fosse kept focussed and took their 1 goal lead into the 2nd half.
Syston put the pressure on straight from the off in the 2nd half but the Fosse Ladies showed their character and found the space to play the ball. Thia and Nic took control of the centre of the field and showed their skill, feeding the ball cleverly over the top of the Syston defence for Carmelina to run onto – 2-0. Some good honest play by Megan Mc and Lisa on the wings helped the Fosse to a 3-0 lead by pushing the ball forward to Carmelina yet again. Syston still pushed and some scrappy play in the Fosse box allowed a sloppy goal for Syston – 3-1. However yet again some brilliant play and pace by Carmelina brought the game to a close with another 2 goals in the final 15 minutes of the game to give Fosse the first win of the new year – 5-1. Well done to all the girls.

Inclusive Christmas Party

The Inclusive Section Christmas party saw Sponsors ‘Blue Peter Club’ host a great party at their venue.  The party was also to ‘Thank’ Inclusive Section Sponsors and Derek Gethins and his family attended on the night, both sons Harry & Archie are involved in coaching the Junior Section.  Carl Harris played his drums, entertaining everyone and was excellent.  Mick Harris provided the music with some great Karaoke from David Codd and other players.  James Cameron was brilliant on the ‘mic’, think he is after Ant or Dec’s job!!  A great night was had by all that attended.  A massive ‘Thank-you’ to the Blue Peter Club for providing a great venue and feeding all the players and parents with tasty Indian food.
