Leicester Fosse 1 – Melton Ladies 0

Fosse were met with a very tough game against a team whose recent run of form has been brilliant. With appalling weather conditions and an extremely boggy pitch the game went on! Despite a change in formation and player positioning Fosse showed some fantastic passing play from back to front and after 20 minutes Fosse were given a free kick, Thia struck the ball hitting the Meltons wall but then took the rebound and pushed the ball home for a Fosse lead. Melton kept pushing but with some superb man marking of Melton’s top striker by Carmy Melton just couldn’t find the net. Fosse battled away and defended well having a few more chances of their own. Then came a late corner for Melton which made Fosse nervous but with a great header off the line by Kate Whetton Fosse came up trumps and took the game. A great game by all, well done Fosse.

Development Victory

On a very wet and windy Sunday afternoon Leicester City Ladies Development Squad kicked off their first friendly of 2015 with a impressive performance and result to match.
The whole team, led by skipper Ash, had to defend early as the weather conditions meant for heavy pressure, however their resilience paid off in the 30th minute when a a quick break away laid the path for new girl Georgia to play a lovely weighted through ball for Khe to slot home from just inside the 18. Reedwoods came out strong and credit must go to goalkeeper Harriet who was sharp and lively on several occasions to sweep up as well as making 3 key saves to keep her side in the lead at the break.
Half Time 0-1
Leicester started the second half well, their high pressuring and energy to win the ball is what earned them a freekick in the 60th minute which Megan floated a wonderful goalward bound cross that Laura Foster helped on its way to make it 0-2. The home side refused to lay down and although Harriet made another string of 1 on 1 saves they soon found the net through a wonderful peice of individual skill as their striker produces a touch, turn and volley into the top corner. A comeback? Not likely thanks to some excellent 1 touch football between Dagmara, Kim and our under 15’s player Emily who all showed neat touches to put Emily Boyes through on goal to make it 3. Once again Reedswood clawed one back, this time weather conditions finally taking its toll as a deep freekick floats and then dips into the roof of the net. Leicester City Ladies held their own and saw out the remaining 10 minutes with no real problem, making it 1 win out of 1 in 2015.

Diamonds Lose Unbeaten Record

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s lost their unbeaten record to a strong Oadby & Wigston Rovers side that handled and adapted to the atrocious conditions much better on the day. The Diamonds’ usual battling and never say die attitude seemed to desert them on the day and they were deservedly beaten.
The first twenty minutes saw Oadby & Wigston take control and put the Diamonds on the back foot. A change of positions saw Olivia D move to the right wing and suddenly the Diamonds got some impetus and caused Rovers some problems. The Diamonds had a good chance to snatch the lead five minutes before half time but after good work by Olivia D putting a good cross in nobody could get on the end of it. However the Diamonds were then hit with two injury blows, firstly to Beth who had to go off injured, this meant Olivia D had to go back into defence and the impetus she had given the Diamonds diminished. Then a challenge on Jocelyn, the goalkeeper, when the ball was in her hands meant a hold up of five minutes before she had to go off with a finger injury. This meant Molly had to deputise in goal for the last five minutes whilst Jocelyn’s injury was assessed. The Diamonds saw out the half to keep it 0-0 and keep a foothold in the game.

Jocelyn bravely came out for the 2nd half even though her finger was hurting. However the Diamonds were again put on the back foot and never got going at all in the 2nd half. Oadby piled forward and it only seemed a matter of time before they scored. Only a great save from Jocelyn and the post kept them out. With Lauren, one of their usual influential players, struggling after picking up an injury in a strong challenge, the Diamonds didn’t show much threat at all. With twenty minutes left Oadby gained a free kick on the edge of the box which was initially defended well by the Diamonds defence but nobody picked up the loose ball and the Rovers Number 5 slotted home the rebound to give them a deserved lead. The Diamonds changed formation to a 4-3-3 but to no avail. Rovers then added a 2nd with a speculative shot that squirmed in to give them a deserved 2-0 victory on the day.
This was a bad performance from the usually reliable Diamonds but they are going to have to put it to bed and win their last 5 league games to still win the League.

Diamonds Win Comfortably

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s won comfortably 7-0 against a Cosby Cats team that always plays with desire and spirit. On a sticky pitch the Diamonds were soon into their stride and took the lead from a Lauren penalty in the 8th minute. Olivia D who had a strong game in various positions doubled the lead on 15 minutes with a nice finish. D’shayney then added two good finishes to add to her already impressive scoring tally for the season to put the Diamonds 4 nil up.

They scored three more times through Laura with a good follow up finish, Olivia D (penalty) and Olivia C who slotted home nicely to round of a workmanlike performance.

County Cup Success

image1Leicester City Ladies reached their first county cup final in five seasons with one of their best ever result against centre of excellence grown Leicester City Women.
Leicester City Womens quality showed in the first half as they dominated the away side, for possession and chances. Ladies started to get a grip of the game towards the break and took this into the second half.
It couldn’t of started any better as a Brant cross was eventually turned in by Becky Preston. Preston was involved again as she pulled away from the defender and finished calmly passed the keeper. Soon it was 3-1 as Aimie Chivers hit high over the goalie catching out Leicester City Womens number 1 to turn the game right around. Leicester City Ladies now needed to see the game out which they did superbly, although they owe some of it to a moment of brilliance as keeper Cattell pulled off a superb one on one save to keep her team on the quest for the final. There was still time for new signing and exciting young player Abbie Keenan to make it 4-1 to make it a great day for Leicester City Ladies.
Matt Cook, Leicester City Ladies Manager, commented after the game ” It’s been such a tough time at the club for one reason or another but footballs about players and ours were fantastic today. Late Goal Sinks Firsts

Kyleigh BrantOnce again Leicester City Ladies did not come out with the result their play deserved in a good footballing match.
Rotherham took the lead when confusion in the box lead to the first goal being scored.
Second half Leicester City Ladies were much better and played some of their best football in 2015. They got their reward midway into the second half when a well worked throw was flicked in by Burbidge for Whalley to finish on her return.
Leicester City Ladies dominated a lot of the set plays in the final third but Rotherhams pace on the break was always a problem and a wonderful cross ball was swept home by the away forward to kill the game.
City had pressure on the Reds goal but all to no avail and can count themselves very unlucky.
Leicester City Ladies manager Matt Cook commented “That’s how things are going at the moment but people need to understand the huge transition the club is in and bringing through so many new and young players. I have to say we were excellent but I know the players are fed up of playing well and getting nothing but that will turn, with ten league Games and next weeks  semi final there’s so much to play for.”

Diamonds Win Tight Game

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s kept their unbeaten run going in a pulsating and hard fought 2-1 victory against a very good Oadby Owls team.
The first half was a very even affair and with the Diamonds’ defence of Eleni, Olivia D, Lucy and Beth in fine form Oadby Owls usually “goal mad” attackers were kept at bay and apart from one effort that hit the post they gave them no space to work in. Shania also did a superb “man marking” job on Oadby Owl’s most threatening player. The Diamonds also had a few decent attacks in the first half but were thwarted by some good defensive and goalkeeping work. With the half looking to be heading to a 0-0 stalemate the Diamonds showed the bit of quality that is needed in these tight games and a superb curling shot by Lauren found the far corner with the goalkeeper having no chance and a 1-0 half time lead was secured.
Half Time Oadby Owls 0 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1
The second half was an equally tight battling affair with both teams in good form but struggling to get through the well marshalled defences. With the Diamond’s defence standing strong it was a surprise when Oadby Owls equalised but it took a goal of quality to beat the stand in keeper Molly who up to then had handled everything that had been thrown at her with ease but she could do nothing about the equaliser. The game looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw but with ten minutes to go a nice pass by Megan let in Lauren who rounded the keeper to slot home and give the Diamonds a superb 2-1 victory that was very important with the way the League stands. The match was a superb display of girls football and the effort put in by both sides was outstanding. Once again the Diamonds girls must be commended for their never say die attitude and they gained points for the fourth time this season in the last 10 minutes of a game because they never give in. Well done girls !
