Development Move up the Table

BluewoodLeicester City Ladies Development side moved up to fourth in the Leicestershire Senior League thanks to a 3-1 away victory over Cosby United. Development fielded a much changed line up from the previous weeks match against the same opposition to give more players some extra game time. Lucy O’Byrne opened the scoring for Leicester City Ladies with a low shot, Cosby United pulled a goal back to leave the sides level at the break. McKenzie Marta restored Leicester City Ladies lead turning in a cross from close range and Megan Footman completed the scoring heading home from close range.

Development Victory

KimAfter hours of hard work on Sunday morning by the Aylestone Park staff removing the thick layer of snow that covered the pitch Leicester City Ladies Development side enjoyed a 5-1 league victory over Cosby United.
Carly Pegg opened the scoring for Leicester City Ladies after fourteen minutes when she perfectly chipped the ball over the head of the advancing keeper. The lead was doubled just before the half hour when Emily Boyes fired a low shot home from the edge of the box. Cosby United pulled a goal back ten minutes before half time through a fine solo goal.
Leicester City Ladies restored their two goal lead early in the second half with a well struck goal from Kim Yates. Eighteen minutes into the second half Carly Pegg scored her second with a free kick wide on the right floated into the goal. With ten minutes left in the game Kim Yates scored her second, after collecting an angled pass from player of the match fullback McKenzie Marta, beating the defence and coolly finishing.

2nd League Win of Season

Leicester City Ladies Development secured their 2nd league win on the bounce with a 2-1 victory over Asfordby Amateurs. Leicester City Ladies were on top from the start and completely dominated the 1st half with Beth Herrick giving them a deserved lead with a cool finish after a ball through from Katie Smith. Leicester City Ladies then doubled their lead with a brilliant solo goal from Katie Smith, who lobbed the goalkeeper with a half volley.
Half Time: Asfordby Amateurs 0 Leicester City Ladies 2
Asfordby Amateurs came into the game more in the second half and got a goal back with a very lucky shot. Leicester City Ladies started to panic and lost their rhythm and composure. Despite this Leicester City Ladies still created chances and could have increased their lead. In the end Leicester City Ladies managed to see the game out and come away with the victory.

First League Victory of the Season

LCLFC DevelopmentLeicester City Ladies Development picked up their first league win of the season, securing a great away win by beating Coalville Town 2-1. Leicester started brightly and were ahead after 15 minutes when Beth Herrick scored a screamer from 20 yards. Despite all of Leicester’s possession they couldn’t make it pay and Coalville equalised before half time.

Leicester started the second half well and continued to have lots of possession. They took the lead when Sophie Pickering played a ball over the top and Katie Smith ran on to it and finished brilliantly in to the bottom corner. Leicester would have increased their lead was it not for the Coalville goalkeeper who made numerous important saves.
A good team performance from Leicester and something to build on for the next league game.

County Cup Victory

IMG-20151004-WA0000Leicester City Ladies Development were drawn at home in the Leicestershire & Rutland County Cup against Oadby & Wigston Ladies F.C. The Development squad consists of many new players that the Club has welcomed to the Club for this season, so after a good game of football L.C.L.F.C. were chuffed to come away with a 4-1 win. The squad have been putting in some good performances in the Leicestershire Women’s Senior League and have been unlucky to only have 1 point from 4 games, so this will give the squad some confidence going into their next League fixture at the weekend, where they are away to Coalville Town. Well done to All players and Team Manager Manager Nathan Curtis.

Development Victory

On a very wet and windy Sunday afternoon Leicester City Ladies Development Squad kicked off their first friendly of 2015 with a impressive performance and result to match.
The whole team, led by skipper Ash, had to defend early as the weather conditions meant for heavy pressure, however their resilience paid off in the 30th minute when a a quick break away laid the path for new girl Georgia to play a lovely weighted through ball for Khe to slot home from just inside the 18. Reedwoods came out strong and credit must go to goalkeeper Harriet who was sharp and lively on several occasions to sweep up as well as making 3 key saves to keep her side in the lead at the break.
Half Time 0-1
Leicester started the second half well, their high pressuring and energy to win the ball is what earned them a freekick in the 60th minute which Megan floated a wonderful goalward bound cross that Laura Foster helped on its way to make it 0-2. The home side refused to lay down and although Harriet made another string of 1 on 1 saves they soon found the net through a wonderful peice of individual skill as their striker produces a touch, turn and volley into the top corner. A comeback? Not likely thanks to some excellent 1 touch football between Dagmara, Kim and our under 15’s player Emily who all showed neat touches to put Emily Boyes through on goal to make it 3. Once again Reedswood clawed one back, this time weather conditions finally taking its toll as a deep freekick floats and then dips into the roof of the net. Leicester City Ladies held their own and saw out the remaining 10 minutes with no real problem, making it 1 win out of 1 in 2015.
Full Time 2-3

Development Fixture

Edlington Royals 3-1 LCLFC Development
After restarting their season with competitive friendlies Leicester City Ladies Development sides first trip was to Sheffield Senior side Edlington Royals under the lights at Yorkshire Miners FC. With several trialists and debutants City put a fine display with a result that doesn’t reflect the match.
The home team started the brighter and took the lead inside 15 minutes when the striker pounced on a rebounded shot. It was soon 2-0 from a long range strike and City looked nervous which is understandable after a tough start to their year.
The away side then got themselves together however and didn’t want half time to come as they were on top .
Second half Leicester City Ladies were more dominant in the final third, Edlington Royals had two chances on the break first a header which went over the cross bar and the second was stopped when Rowlands pulled off a double save. City were now in their stride however and it was a proper football match, Hill and causing problems down the right and Kim and Thia up top worrying them with pace . Soon then Keeleigh Hutchings joined the attack to make it a pacey front three with trialist Emma Fisher who had a fine game just in behind and all of a sudden the away side looked more likely of scoring a goal. Soon it came when Keeleigh Hutchings slammed home a fine penalty she and Wright when on to have two chances which the Edlington goalkeeper pulled off some fine stops. With bodies going forward trying to get some reward for their nights work Edlington caught City on the break and from the resulting corner sealed the game with a 3-1.
Overall a good start on the development teams new journey in 2014/15 as the team worked incredible hard and made what was all in all a friendly game very enjoyable and good footballing match from both teams.

Young 11 Put on a Great Show

A young under 21 Leicester City Ladies side were invited to play the Independent Schools Football Club National squad at the wonderful facilities of Oakham School.
ISFA went into a quick one goal lead before Kayleigh Needham equalised with a stunning strike. Isfa went on to run away with the first half leading 3-1 at half time.
After a good half time team chat to plan for the second half it could not have started any worse as a dubious decision led to a free kick which ended up making it 4-1 much to the amazement of the players. Leicester City Ladies then showed immense quality and change of system saw them score three goals in ten minutes, Ball and a Needham brace completing her hat trick showed great character from the away side. Some great individual performances were on show, Rowlands kept City in the game in the City goal with some confident keeping. Hutchings at the back and Ayesha on the wing caused no end of problems. However all over the City 11 were immense.
Although ISFA went on to win 5-4 City’s second half performance was a credit, Leicester City Ladies First team manager Matt Cook commented after the game “I wasn’t really aware of what sort of opposition we would face, when I found out I knew it would be a challenge. ISFA were full of highly talented Centre of Excellence players and I can’t compliment our young players enough. Not only did they work tremendously hard but we played some great stuff.”
A big thank you to the ISFA for choosing Leicester City Ladies to play and a big thank you to your team for their efforts on the day.
