Season Review

The Diamonds have had a very good season finishing 2nd in the League to a very strong Oadby & Wigston Rovers side. They also finished runners up in the County Cup after losing 3-1 to Oadby Owls in extra time having beaten Oadby & Wigston Rovers 5-1 and Asfordby 8-0 on the way to the Final. They also got knocked out in the Semi Final of the League Cup after losing on penalties 3-2 after drawing the game 2-2 to Oadby & Wigston Rovers despite being the better side on the day. They had beaten Harborough Town 2-0 and Oadby Owls 3-2 on the way to the Final. In my opinion the girls deserved to win a trophy this season for their efforts but football isn’t always fair and April has proved to be a disappointing month in the final run of fixtures. However credit must go to 2 strong sides in Oadby & Wigston Rovers & Oadby Owls who beat them in the games that mattered. The girls will now look forward to their end of season tour to Butlins in Bognor.

Diamonds Lose Last League Game

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds finished off their League campaign with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Champions Oadby & Wigston Rovers. Unlike the previous week when the Diamonds were the better team this week they didn’t have the same zest abut them. Oadby & Wigston Rovers opened the scoring early on and then scored two more times to take an unassailable lead of 3-0 into half time.

The Diamonds showed a bit more endeavour in the 2nd half but found the superb Oadby & Wigston Rovers goalkeeper in fine form and she stopped everything that was thrown at her. It ended 3-0 to the hosts at Full Time.

Diamonds Suffer Penalty Agony

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds unluckily lost their League Cup Semi – Final 3-2 on penalties after drawing 2-2 with Champions Oadby & Wigston Rovers. Despite dominating for large periods of the game and having the lion’s share of possession they went out of the Cup on penalties. This was the hardest defeat of the season to take as the girls put in so much effort and deserved to reach the Final on the day.
The first half started in the worst way possible for the Diamonds when Lucy sliced a corner into her own net in the 2nd minute to put the Diamonds on the back foot. Both sides sparred with each other for most of the 1st half and there were no clear cut chances with both sets of girls giving their all. The Diamonds just about shaded the 1st half on possession and were looking the stronger team but it was Rovers who went in at Half Time with a 1-0 lead.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 0 Oadby & Wigston Rovers 1
The 2nd half was a bit more of an entertaining half with chances at both ends. Again the Diamonds were the stronger team and looked the most likely to score. However a long range free kick from Oadby & Wigston Rovers caught Jocelyn out and Rovers took a 2-0 lead which really didn’t reflect the game. However the Diamonds girls are full of character and never give up. Changing to a 3-5-2 formation the Diamonds pegged Rovers’ back into their own half for much of the 2nd half. The Diamonds scored a superb goal from Molly who blasted in a 20 yarder to pull a goal back for the Diamonds with 15 minutes to go. It was all Diamonds now and Oadby were defending resolutely. The Diamonds got their reward 5 minutes from time when a shot by Shania deceived the keeper and levelled the score at 2-2. There only looked one winner now but Rovers managed to keep the score to 2-2 at Full Time.
Full Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 2 Oadby & Wigston Rovers 2,
There was then a pointless 5 minutes each way of extra time (surely should be 10 minutes each way like the County Cup) that didn’t produce anything of note and so to the dreaded penalty shoot out. The Diamonds scored through Lauren and Molly but Olivia C, Olivia D and Tiarna did not and Rovers held their nerve and won the penalty shoot out 3-2.
On the day the girls might have lost on penalties but I just want to say how proud the Joint Managers are with their never say die attitude and display on the day that deserved a win. Sometimes football can be cruel but the girls took it on the chin. Fair play to Oadby & Wigston Rovers as they held their nerve in the penalty shoot out.

Diamonds Win In Entertaining Game

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds won an entertaining game 7-1 against their sister side. The Diamonds were on the front foot from the start and enjoyed lots of possession. However they found Lucy, the opposition goalkeeper, in fine form and she produced save after save, especially from D’shayney, to keep the Diamonds at bay. The Diamonds opened the scoring in the 15th minute through a superb 20 yard shot from Tiarna that gave the keeper no chance. After 20 minutes Olivia D turned poacher as she turned a goal ward bound shot into the net to make the score 2-0. The Diamonds rounded off the half with a neat lob finish by Lauren to make it 3-0 before the break.

The 2nd half was again an entertaining half and both teams were giving it their all. The Diamonds made it 4-0 with a smart finish from Laura on 50 minutes. However the goal of the game came from the opposition when Rebecca scored a lovely 25 yard left foot shot that gave Jocelyn no chance in goal to make it 4-1. The Diamonds went 5-1 up on 70 minutes with a superb free kick from 25 yards from Lauren that flew into the net. D’shayney added 2 further goals in the last 10 minutes to leave the score 7-1. This was a very entertaining game played in a good spirit by both sides. Hopefully both sides can progress in their semi-final games on Sunday April 19th.

Diamonds Draw In Disappointing Display

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds produced a disappointing display in a 1-1 draw with Bedworth Eagles Girls although the dreadful windy conditions were a factor. The Diamonds never really got into their stride in the 1st half and although created a few chances they were wayward in their shooting. That said they still took the lead with a smart finish from Jenna but even though they had the wind in their favour they couldn’t add to their goal tally.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1 Bedworth Eagles Girls 0
The 2nd half produced an improved display from the Diamonds and even though they were playing against the wind they produced some good chances and D’shayney went close with a lovely chip that drifted wide of the goal. However Bedworth more than matched them in the 2nd half and also had their opportunities. Bedworth equalised with ten minutes to go when the Diamonds did not defend a corner very well and Bedworth scored with a well taken shot. The game was up for grabs now and both sides pushed forward but to there was no end product. The Diamonds nearly snatched it at the death after a superb run and cross from Olivia D was narrowly headed wide by Olivia C. All in all a draw was a fair result and the Diamonds look destined to finish 2nd in the League now unless a miracle happens.

Diamonds Suffer Extra Time Loss In County Cup Final

Diamonds CountyCupFinal2015Leicester City Ladies Diamonds were beaten 3-1 in extra time by a determined and competitive Oadby Owls’ side who gave everything for their Manager to win the County Cup. The game was a great advert for girls football and was played at a terrific pace and with some great football and the game ebbed and flowed throughout. On the night no side deserved to win or lose but there has to be a winner and Oadby Owls proved the stronger and better finishers in extra time to gain their win and fair play to them.
The first half mainly belonged to the Diamonds but Oadby were always threatening on the break. The Diamonds created numerous half chances with both Lauren and Shania coming close but they couldn’t breach the Owls defence and goalkeeper who had a superb game. Both sides were passing the ball well and the quality shown by both sides was a joy to watch. With half time approaching the Diamonds took the lead when Olivia D superbly drove the ball home to give the Diamonds a 1-0 lead at half time.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1 Oadby Owls 0
At half time the Diamonds were warned that Oadby Owls were not finished and so it proved. Again the play was pretty even and the determination and skill shown by both teams was superb and must have been a pleasure to watch for the neutral. With 20 minutes left Oadby Owls’ equalised with a superb effort from their striker and it was game on. Again both sides battled and both had chances to win the game in normal time. The best chance fell to D’shayney a minute from time but her header came back off the bar and the sides were level at full time.
Full Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1 Oadby Owls 1
This led to 10 minutes extra time each way. There were some tired legs on both teams with players going down with cramp at various intervals. The quality was still in the game but the chances were getting less. That said once again the Oadby Owls’ striker scored a superb strike to give Oadby the lead for the first time. The 1st half of extra time ended with Oadby winning 2-1. In the 2nd half of extra time it didn’t matter what the Diamonds threw at Oadby as it was repelled. With a minute to go their striker completed her hat trick with another superb strike to finally put the game to bed with a 3-1 victory.
As much as it was a disappointment for the Diamonds to lose the Final as it was an even affair credit must go to Oadby Owls. Their Management and players fully deserve their success as they play the game in the right way and both sets of players were a credit to their clubs. Hopefully the Diamonds will bounce back and win something this season as that is what their players deserve for such a good season they have had.

Diamonds Win in Tough Conditions

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds got back to winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Loughborough Foxes in some atrocious windy and rainy conditions that both sides did well to play and produce some good football in. Diamonds started well and despite the conditions knocked the ball around as well as they could. However against the run of play Loughborough Foxes took the lead with a superb shot that Jocelyn could do nothing about. The Diamonds’ heads didn’t go down though and a superb flowing move was finished off with a sweet shot by D’shayney to draw the sides level. Another flowing move followed 5 minutes later and a superb cross by Olivia C was expertly finished by Molly. At this stage there was only one team in it and D’shayney had 3 good chances to stretch the lead but she either put them wide or hit the post. These misses proved to be costly as Loughborough equalised with another good finish to undeservedly go in level at half time 2-2.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 2 Loughborough Foxes 2
The 2nd half started and the conditions were a little bit better. The Diamonds were again quick out of the blocks and it seemed only a matter of time before they scored again. After hitting the post another 2 times Tiarna settled the nerves with a superb 25 yard finish that flew into the net. With only a 1 goal advantage the game still wasn’t won but the Diamonds continued to spurn chances. They hit the post another 2 times, to make it 6 times the post was hit in total in the match, and you felt it wasn’t going to be their day and they would get caught with a sucker punch equaliser. However the game was put to bed when Lauren chipped the keeper to make it 4-2 and finally we could relax ! Overall the girls put in a very commanding performance in difficult conditions and can now look forward to the County Cup Final on April 1st with confidence.

Diamonds Held In Tough Game

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds suffered a setback in their title race challenge when they were held to a 1-1 draw against a well organised and committed Bedworth Gems who deservedly shared the spoils. The match was a very even contest throughout and from the off the Diamonds knew they were in for a tough game. The Gems were very organised and gave the Diamonds no room to play and it was always heading for a low scoring tight game. After a superb Shania shot was pushed round the post for a corner by a superb save from the keeper the Diamonds took the lead. Olivia D put a pinpoint corner into the box for Lauren to powerfully head home to put the Diamonds 1 up. After this the Diamonds had a few half chances that were either missed or saved by the keeper. However the Gems also had their chances and their lone striker was always a threat and Jocelyn had to be at her best to save a few dangerous efforts. The Gems equalised with a long range shot that managed to be too high to be pushed over the bar and the Diamonds knew they were in for a game. Just before half time a slick passing move by the Diamonds sent Lauren racing in but her shot was again superbly saved by the keeper so the teams went in at half time level.
Half Time Bedworth Gems 1 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1
The 2nd half again proved to be a even contest although the Diamonds got stronger towards the end of the half. The Diamonds had very few clear cut chances and the ones they did have were dealt with by the defence or keeper. With ten minutes to go it looked as if the Diamonds would at last snatch it when a mazy run by Lauren saw her beat four players but her powerful shot went wide and with it the victory that the Diamonds needed was gone.
This was a good game of football that was played in the right spirit by the both sets of girls and credit must go to Bedworth Gems who gave it their all and were a tough nut to crack.

Diamonds Progress To Semi-Finals Of League Cup

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds overcame a very strong Oadby Owls side to progress to the semi finals of the League Cup with a narrow 3-2 victory. The two sides have now met four times this season including a friendly and the sides are very evenly matched and there is never any more than one goal in a game. The County Cup game on April 1st looks sure to be a cracker as well.
The game started off at a blistering pace with both sides committing players forward. Oadby Owls had the edge though and good defending and goalkeeping was keeping their attackers at bay. That said the Diamonds still looked dangerous going forward and took the lead in the 20th minute when a good pass by Laura was flicked home by Olivia C. However the lead lasted less than a minute as Oadby Owls equalised when there winger showed good strength and a good finish to level things up. The rest of the half was played with superb commitment from both sides and they went in at half time level with Oadby Owls shading the half.
Half Time Oadby Owls 1 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1
The 2nd half again proved to be a battle and both sides were full of desire to clinch the win. It was however the Diamonds who were looking the stronger and only the post denied them taking the lead. However it was Oadby Owls who took the lead to make it 2-1 with an excellent strike from their other winger that Jocelyn could do nothing about. This rocked the Diamonds but one thing they never do is give up. They battled and scrapped and finally got their reward when a goalmouth scramble was finally put in by Jenna to draw the Diamonds level at 2-2. With both sides looking for a winner it looked like extra time and penalties might be the only thing that could split the sides. However the Diamonds are renowned in the League for never giving up and they are the last 10 minutes specialists when it comes to getting late goals! This was again proved when a through ball found D’shayney clean through with a minute to play. D’shayney calmly took the ball in her stride and skilfully slid the ball into the net to cap a superb performance from the Diamonds. It was fitting that D’shayney got the winner as she was the Diamonds’ best player on the day.
Overall a very inspiring and pleasing display from the girls and Oadby must be fed up with the last minute goals we have scored against them this season! Well done to both sets of players for a superb advert for girls’ football.

Diamonds Bounce Back In The Cup

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s bounced back from their 1st defeat of the season last week with a comfortable 2-0 win in the League Cup away to Harborough Town. Harborough Town once again proved to be tough opponents but the Diamonds were in determined mood after last week and their passion and commitment returned. Diamonds opened the scoring with a lob from Molly and doubled their lead with a goal from Lauren to take a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes and set them on their way. With the Harborough keeper in inspired form the Diamonds who were dominant throughout the 1st half were kept at bay from opening up a 5 or 6 goal lead at half time and the 2-0 margin didn’t do them justice.
Half Time: Harborough Town 0 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 2
The 2nd half was a bit more of an even contest and Harborough were more of a threat. However it was the Diamonds who once again had the better chances and but for the excellent performance of the Harborough keeper the score would have been a lot more convincing. Overall a very good display from the Diamonds and a quarter final against Oadby Owls awaits.

Diamonds Lose Unbeaten Record

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s lost their unbeaten record to a strong Oadby & Wigston Rovers side that handled and adapted to the atrocious conditions much better on the day. The Diamonds’ usual battling and never say die attitude seemed to desert them on the day and they were deservedly beaten.
The first twenty minutes saw Oadby & Wigston take control and put the Diamonds on the back foot. A change of positions saw Olivia D move to the right wing and suddenly the Diamonds got some impetus and caused Rovers some problems. The Diamonds had a good chance to snatch the lead five minutes before half time but after good work by Olivia D putting a good cross in nobody could get on the end of it. However the Diamonds were then hit with two injury blows, firstly to Beth who had to go off injured, this meant Olivia D had to go back into defence and the impetus she had given the Diamonds diminished. Then a challenge on Jocelyn, the goalkeeper, when the ball was in her hands meant a hold up of five minutes before she had to go off with a finger injury. This meant Molly had to deputise in goal for the last five minutes whilst Jocelyn’s injury was assessed. The Diamonds saw out the half to keep it 0-0 and keep a foothold in the game.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 0 Oadby & Wigston Rovers 0
Jocelyn bravely came out for the 2nd half even though her finger was hurting. However the Diamonds were again put on the back foot and never got going at all in the 2nd half. Oadby piled forward and it only seemed a matter of time before they scored. Only a great save from Jocelyn and the post kept them out. With Lauren, one of their usual influential players, struggling after picking up an injury in a strong challenge, the Diamonds didn’t show much threat at all. With twenty minutes left Oadby gained a free kick on the edge of the box which was initially defended well by the Diamonds defence but nobody picked up the loose ball and the Rovers Number 5 slotted home the rebound to give them a deserved lead. The Diamonds changed formation to a 4-3-3 but to no avail. Rovers then added a 2nd with a speculative shot that squirmed in to give them a deserved 2-0 victory on the day.
This was a bad performance from the usually reliable Diamonds but they are going to have to put it to bed and win their last 5 league games to still win the League.

Diamonds Win Comfortably

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s won comfortably 7-0 against a Cosby Cats team that always plays with desire and spirit. On a sticky pitch the Diamonds were soon into their stride and took the lead from a Lauren penalty in the 8th minute. Olivia D who had a strong game in various positions doubled the lead on 15 minutes with a nice finish. D’shayney then added two good finishes to add to her already impressive scoring tally for the season to put the Diamonds 4 nil up.
Half Time Cosby Cats 0 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 4
The 2nd half was again dominated by the Diamonds and there were some impressive displays especially from Chloe and the Diamonds were in cruise control for much of the half. They scored three more times through Laura with a good follow up finish, Olivia D (penalty) and Olivia C who slotted home nicely to round of a workmanlike performance.
Now on to the ” big one ” against 2nd in the table Oadby & Wigston Rovers.

Diamonds Win Tight Game

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s kept their unbeaten run going in a pulsating and hard fought 2-1 victory against a very good Oadby Owls team.
The first half was a very even affair and with the Diamonds’ defence of Eleni, Olivia D, Lucy and Beth in fine form Oadby Owls usually “goal mad” attackers were kept at bay and apart from one effort that hit the post they gave them no space to work in. Shania also did a superb “man marking” job on Oadby Owl’s most threatening player. The Diamonds also had a few decent attacks in the first half but were thwarted by some good defensive and goalkeeping work. With the half looking to be heading to a 0-0 stalemate the Diamonds showed the bit of quality that is needed in these tight games and a superb curling shot by Lauren found the far corner with the goalkeeper having no chance and a 1-0 half time lead was secured.
Half Time Oadby Owls 0 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1
The second half was an equally tight battling affair with both teams in good form but struggling to get through the well marshalled defences. With the Diamond’s defence standing strong it was a surprise when Oadby Owls equalised but it took a goal of quality to beat the stand in keeper Molly who up to then had handled everything that had been thrown at her with ease but she could do nothing about the equaliser. The game looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw but with ten minutes to go a nice pass by Megan let in Lauren who rounded the keeper to slot home and give the Diamonds a superb 2-1 victory that was very important with the way the League stands. The match was a superb display of girls football and the effort put in by both sides was outstanding. Once again the Diamonds girls must be commended for their never say die attitude and they gained points for the fourth time this season in the last 10 minutes of a game because they never give in. Well done girls !

Hard Fought Win

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds kept their unbeaten run going with a battling and hard fought 2-1 victory against Harborough Town. After last week’s impressive display the Diamonds were looking to carry on where they left off. However Harborough Town hadn’t read the scrip and dominated the 1st half with a powerful and impressive display that had the Diamonds on the back foot from the off. Harborough Town deservedly took the lead in the first five minutes and were in control for the majority of the 1st half and had a 2nd goal disallowed with a tight offside decision. The Diamonds were happy to get in at half time only 1-0 down.
Half Time Harborough Town 1 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 0
After a “kick up the bum” from the Joint Managers the Diamonds came out in a much more determined and positive mood and at last put their opponents under pressure.  With Lauren showing her guts and courage she inspired the Diamonds to a much improved display. Olivia D and Lucy were commanding in defence and Harborough Town were finding the Diamonds a much different proposition to the 1st half. After two surging runs and shots by Lauren went over the bar the Diamonds finally equalised with twenty minutes to go with a left foot lob from Lauren finding the net. This spurred the Diamonds on further and a mazy run by Lauren saw the keeper make a brave save and Olivia C followed up to score but this time an equally tight decision ruled the goal offside. However the Diamonds wouldn’t be denied and after Lauren was fouled on the edge of the area Lucy stepped up a curled a great left foot free kick into the top corner to put the Diamonds 2-1 up with ten minutes to go. With Harborough Town still battling away and Leicester City Ladies Diamonds Lauren forced off badly injured the Diamonds’ team stuck to their task and defended for their lives to preserve a 2-1 victory.
Overall it was a great 2-1 victory and showed that the Diamonds never give up and have a never say die attitude even against bigger and stronger opponents. Harborough Town will feel aggrieved though as overall a draw would have been the right and fair result. Now onto next week and the eagerly awaited clash with Oadby & Wigston Rovers.

Impressive Diamonds Reach County Cup Final

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds reached the County Cup Final with an impressive 8-0 victory away to Asfordby Amateurs. On a frosty morning the Diamonds showed both their footballing and battling skills in a solid first half display. The Diamonds went 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes with two good finishes from Lauren. With Leicester dominant in all areas of the pitch it was no surprise that D’shayney added two more good finishes before half time to give the Diamonds a deserved 4-0 lead at the break.
Half Time: Asfordby Amateurs 0 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 4
The second half started similarly to the first and the Diamonds took full control unlike the previous week when they let Asfordby Amateurs back into the game. Jenna scored a poachers goal to make it 5-0 then Olivia D went on a mazy run and finished with a good shot to make it 6-0. With Diamond’s defence keeping their concentration Asfordby Amateurs were never given a foothold in the game. Leicester City Ladies Diamonds increased their lead to 7-0 with another poacher’s goal from Jenna and Lauren completed her hat-trick with a 20 yard finish to make the final score 8-0. The girls should be very proud of themselves as it was a very impressive display and they deserve their Final against Oadby Owls in April at Holmes Park after beating Oadby and Wigston Rovers in the last round as well.

Diamonds Keep Unbeaten Run Going

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds kept their unbeaten run going with a 5-3 victory over Asfordby Amateurs which was their 9th win out of 10 League games. Diamonds with only 12 players fit played one of their best games of the season with a good footballing display. Against a well organised Asfordby side the Diamonds took control of the 1st half and deservedly went in front in the 18th minute with a lovely shot from Laura. They doubled their lead in the 26th minute when a superb corner by Molly was headed in by Lauren. The Diamonds were now knocking the ball around nicely and D’shayney made it 3-0 with a lovely curling shot that gave the keeper no chance. The defence of Eleni, Olivia D, Beth and Shania were snuffing out any Asfordby attacks and Jocelyn touched the ball for the first time a minute before half time such was the Diamonds dominance.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 3 Asfordby Amateurs 0
The 2nd half was a bit more of an even affair with Asfordby putting up a good fight and never giving up and they were looking a bit more lively up front. However after 50 minutes D’shayney made it 4-0 with a neat finish and Megan scored a superb 30 yarder after 57 minutes and the game seemed won. However Asfordby didn’t give up and with the Diamonds players and management already thinking the game was won the Diamonds got sloppy and the Asfordby striker took advantage of this a scored a 15 minute hat-trick to make the final score 5-3. This was a bit harsh on the Diamonds as they deserved a bigger victory but fair play must go to Asfordby who never gave up.
This game will be a lesson for the girls and management to keep their focus for the whole 80 minutes in future!

Diamonds Snatch a Draw Against Owls

020Top of the table Leicester City Ladies Diamonds snatched a last minute 3-3 draw against 2nd in the table Oadby Owls to keep their unbeaten record intact although Oadby Owls would feel aggrieved as they were the better side on the day.
With Leicester missing Tiarna, one of their most influential players through injury and another influential player Lucy going off injured after 15 mins it was always going to be a tough game against a very skilful and strong Oadby Owls side who had been scoring for fun this season. Both sides had a joint picture for the football remembers campaign before the game and both sets of players were committed and gave their all in a battling game. Unlike in our previous game the opposition side were prepared to both use skilful football and battling qualities against us and it was our hardest game of the season so far. Oadby Owls deservedly took the lead midway through the 1st half with a good finish. Against the run of play Leicester equalised through Laura who blasted a shot into the net. However it wasn’t long before Oadby regained the lead and it stayed 2-1 until Half Time. Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1 Oadby Owls 2
The 2nd half started similarly to the 1st half and Oadby were again in control. They scored again to make it 3-1 and to be honest there only looked one winner. However one thing about our girls is they never give up. Changing to a 3-4-3 formation they got back into the game when Lauren slotted the ball away nicely and all of a sudden Oadby Owls were on the back foot at last ! Leicester continued to press forward in the last 10 mins and were let off the hook when the Oadby Owls striker missed a good opportunity to win the game. This galvanised Leicester into a final push and with a minute to go a superb corner by Olivia D found Lauren in the box and she did an overhead kick that was going in until an Oadby Owls defender tipped it round the post and a penalty was awarded. Molly kept her nerve and scored to make it 3-3 and an unlikely point was gained.
Credit must go to both sets of players for a honest and battling display and also to the referee who was superb.

Diamonds Out Battle Rovers

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds beat a previously unbeaten Oadby & Wigston Rovers side 5-1 with a battling and determined display to reach the Semi Finals of the County Cup.
The first half was very competitive with both teams having decent chances. The best chance fell to Oadby & Wigston Rovers though but Jocelyn was up to the challenge and saved a penalty to keep the score line 0-0 at the break.
Half Time Oadby & Wigston Rovers 0 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 0
The 2nd half was different though as Leicester City Ladies took total control and Rovers could not get to grip with the determination and battling qualities of the Leicester girls with the Leicester midfield outplaying and out battling their Rovers opponents. D’shayney opened the scoring with a superb header from a corner and Tiarna soon made it 2-0 with a superb 25 yard finish. D’shayney and Tiarna both added another goal each and Leicester were in total command with a 4-0 lead. To their credit Oadby & Wigston Rovers got a consolation goal to make it 4-1 but then a 50 yard run and finish from Lauren put the icing on the cake to make it 5-1.
This was a superb battling 5-1 win and the girls should be proud of themselves as they out fought a very good Oadby & Wigston Rovers side and made them look 2nd best all 2nd half.

Battling Display

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds beat Harborough Town 3-0 with a battling display to record their 8th win out of eight and stay top of the League.
The first half was very competitive with both teams putting in a good shift but no team could get a stranglehold of the game and it was deservedly level at half time.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 0 Harborough Town 0
The 2nd half was also a very competitive half. The Diamonds began to show a bit more quality and tested the Harborough keeper on numerous occasions but she kept Town in the game with some excellent saves. However ten minutes into the second half Olivia C, who was having her best game of the season, put them in the lead with a close range shot and the Diamonds were on their way. Leicester City Ladies Diamonds kept on creating chances and it was no surprise when Olivia C made it 2-0 with her 2nd of the game. D’shayney was having one of those days where every time she looked like scoring the keeper would make a good save or defender a last gasp challenge so the game was not won. However Laura managed to finally put the game to bed with a deflected shot that gave Diamonds a deserved 3-0 win.

Diamonds Win Scrappy Encounter

Leicester City Ladies U15’s maintained their 100% record in a 7-1 win at home to Haunchwood Girls in a scrappy encounter. Leicester City Ladies never got going in the 1st half and were only leading 2-0 through good strikes from Tamzin and Olivia C. With four players missing through injury and holidays the side just could not get into their stride. They huffed and puffed but some still seemed to be on half term!
Half Time – Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 2 Haunchwood Girls 0
The 2nd half started in the same vain and Leicester City Ladies were rocked when Haunchwood pulled a goal back to make it 2-1. Haunchwood were battling hard and seemed to want it more than our girls. However at last the girls decided to wake up and produced a good last 25 minutes where they created chances at will and scored 5 times through Lauren, Jenna x 2 and Olivia C x 2, to complete her hat trick.
This game should be a wake up call for the girls to realise you only get a good performance and results if 100% is put in by the whole team.

Diamonds Win In Tough Encounter

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s maintained their 100% record in a 2-1 win away to Loughborough Foxes in a tough encounter. Leicester City Ladies dominated the 1st half and were only leading 1-0 through a Jenna strike half way through the half, playing their best half of football this season. They dominated the play and had numerous chances but found the Loughborough keeper in inspired form and a 1-0 score line did not reflect the outstanding half of football the Diamonds had produced.
Half Time – Loughborough Foxes 0 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 1
However the 2nd half was a completely different affair. Loughborough Foxes, realising they were still in the game matched Leicester City Ladies all the way and the game became a battle. Both sides were playing well and it was a good game to watch. Loughborough equalised with five minutes to go and it looked if the game was heading for a draw. However the Leicester girls showed their spirit and got a winner in the last minute with a lob over the keeper from Olivia C.
Overall it was a deserved win on the balance of play through the whole game but credit must also go to Loughborough Foxes who were superb in the 2nd half.

100% Record Maintained

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s beat Cosby Cats 7-0 with a workmanlike win. Leicester played some good football in patches but never really got into their stride like last week. This was probably down to a lot of chopping and changing by the joint managers trying players out in different positions which disrupted the flow. That said Leicester City Ladies were always in command against a spirited Cosby side.
Leicester City Ladies opened the scoring through D’shayney who drilled in a shot after some determined battling. Lauren then scored twice with two powerful headers from corners. D’shayney added a fourth before half time.
Half Time – Leicester Ladies Diamonds 4 Cosby Cats 0.
Leicester City Ladies started off the 2nd half in determined mood with their passing a lot better. They added a fifth with a close range shot from Olivia. To their credit Cosby never gave up and still tried to attack as much as possible. Leicester made it 6-0 with a good finish from Chloe and D’shayney was able to complete her hat-trick just before the finish with a neat finish. Overall a good result played and watched in the right spirit by both sets of players and parents.

Comfortable Victory

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s beat Bedworth Eagles 5-2 with a comfortable win. Both teams played with passion but Leicester City Ladies always had the edge and never really had to get out of 3rd gear. Leicester City Ladies opened the scoring through Olivia who drilled in a low shot into the corner. Bedworth equalised with a speculative shot that bounced over the keeper on the hard pitch. This was a bit harsh on Leicester City Ladies who had dominated the play up to then. This did not put off Leicester City Ladies though and with the midfield dominant they scored three more times before half time with an own goal from a Lucy corner, a good individual goal from D’shayney, a shot from Jenna who scored her 5th goal of the season already.
Half Time – Bedworth Eagles 1 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 4
Leicester City Ladies started off the 2nd half where they had left off and dominated play with some good passing. To their credit Bedworth never gave up and still made it a competitive game. Leicester City Ladies made it 5-1 with a good individual goal from Lauren which she finished off nicely. This enabled Leicester City Ladies to ring the changes and rest some players and try players in different positions. Bedworth kept battling and were rewarded with a 2nd goal just before the end. This was a very good win at a notoriously tough place to go and the team should be proud of their superb team performance.

Diamonds Win Tough Encounter

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s beat Bedworth Gems 2-0 in a very competitive game. Both teams played with passion and cancelled each other out in the 1st half but on the stroke of half time Leicester City Ladies took the lead with Jenna scoring, this was a bit harsh on Bedworth Gems to be fair.

The second half again was again very competitive but Leicester City Ladies looked the livelier and looked the most likely to score. Good Start To League Campaign For The Diamonds

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds U15’s started the season in strong style with a convincing 8-1 away victory against Asfordby Amateurs. Leicester were on the front foot from the start and deserved to be ahead a lot sooner than they were. Molly opened the scoring then Lauren saw a thumping header come back off the bar but against the run of play Leicester were pegged back to 1-1 with Asfordby’s only shot on target all game. Jenna soon restored Leicester’s lead and they went into half time with a 2-1 lead. Half Time Score: Asfordby Amateurs 1 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 2.
The second half proved a much more convincing finishing display with six more goals coming from Molly x 2 to complete her hat-trick, a hat-trick from Jenna, a brave header by D’shayney and a long range shot from Tiarna. Such was Leicester’s dominance in the 2nd half the Leicester keeper didn’t actually touch the ball. Overall a very encouraging display but there is a lot more to come from the girls. Final Score Asfordby Amateurs 1 Leicester City Ladies Diamonds 8. Jocelyn, Shania, Olivia D, Beth, Tamzin, Olivia C, Tiarna x 1, Lauren, Jenna x 3, D’shayney x 1, Molly x 3, Chloe.

International Victory

LCLFCu15-EkholtLeicester Ladies U15’s Diamonds played Ekholt from Norway at the superb Oakham School venue. The game was played in a very good spirit with both sides very competitive. The 1st half ended stalemate with the defences playing very well to limit the scoring chances. In the 2nd half the game opened up a bit more and the Leicester City Ladies side proved the stronger with 3 goals coming. The 1st was a penalty by Molly after a Ekholt player had handled in the area. The 2nd also came from Molly as she fired in from close range after a good attacking move. The third was an individual bit of class by Olivia who went on a mazy run and smashed a 25 yarder into the net. Overall it was a very good and enjoyable exercise and the girls look in good shape for the coming season. Two girls who deserve a mention and who played and defended very well were Olivia and D’shayney.

Champions

Leicester City Ladies Under 13s League Champions 2012-13Leicester City Ladies Under 13s managed to successfully defend their league winners crown from last year with a game to spare by beating Leicester City 2010 in a tight game.
Leicester City Ladies went into the game knowing that a draw would be enough to see them crowned as champions. The game started at a fast pace with both teams looking up for the challenge. Leicester City Ladies looked dangerous going forward and Jade was a constant threat from the right wing. With 20 minutes gone Leicester City Ladies took the lead when a ball over the top was misjudged by the 2010 defender and goalkeeper leaving space for Jade to nip in and slot the ball home. Leicester City Ladies defence of Shania, Beth and Eleni looked solid and were giving 2010 little room to create anything. Leicester City Ladies could have increased their lead when Foxy played a cheeky back heel to Jade who struck just wide of the post. 2010 themselves had a chance but Leicester City Ladies goalkeeper Viv got down well and saved at the strikers feet.
Half Time: Leicester City Ladies 2010 0 Leicester City Ladies 1
2010 came out fired up in the second half and started the better of the two teams. Leicester City Ladies were still looking good on the break and Lauren played a fantastic through ball to Jade who just lacked a little composure in front of goal. 2010 did put some pressure on Leicester City Ladies with a succession of corners and throw ins but Leicester City Ladies stood firm and defended solidly as a team.

You should all be very proud of yourselves.

Back to Winning Ways

This week Leicester City Ladies faced a tough Oadby Owls team and after their defeat on Wednesday night it was important that they got back to winning ways.
Leicester City Ladies did not have the best start to the game with the girls looking nervous and lacking a bit of confidence. Oadby Owls were strong in the tackle and very direct which caused Leicester City Ladies all sorts of problems. Oadby Owls deservedly took the lead after 15 minutes when their striker finished well. Leicester City Ladies knew that they had to up their game now and that they did. They started to pass the ball around on the floor and create chances on goal. Leicester City Ladies equalised on 20 minutes when goalkeeper Viv took a short goalkick which ended up with Lauren who played an inch perfect pass to Jade who made no mistake with the finish.
Half Time: Oadby Owls 1 Leicester City Ladies 1
The start of the second half was end to end with both teams having chances on goal but neither team could get a grip of the game. Leicester City Ladies did take the lead with 15 minutes to go when Jade chanced her luck with a lobbed shot from long range which the Oadby goalkeeper couldn’t keep out. This seemed to spur Leicester City Ladies on and they began to play with much more confidence and freedom. They still had some defending to do though as Oadby Owls were dangerous going forward and it took a great block from Shania and a fantastic saving tackle from Tamzin to keep them at bay. Leicester City Ladies eventually extended their lead with 5 minutes to go when Lauren scored a brilliant solo goal after a great run.

First League Defeat in Two Seasons

Leicester City Ladies Under 13s slipped to their first league defeat in 2 seasons against a strong 2010 side. The conditions were awful for both teams with a very strong wind swirling around for the duration of the game. 2010 kicked with the wind in the first half and started much the brighter with Leicester City Ladies finding themselves off the pace. 2010 took the lead from a long range effort which deceived Leicester goalkeeper Viv and doubled their lead soon after, when a mix up between goalkeeper and defence allowed the 2010 striker to nip in and finish well.
Half Time: Leicester City Ladies 0 Leicester City Ladies 2010 2
Leicester City Ladies started the second half better but still failed to capitalise fully on the wind being in their favour. Jade did deservedly pull a goal back with 15 minutes to go but Leicester City Ladies still had a lot of work to do. With Leicester City Ladies pushing forward, 2010 were very dangerous on the break and could have easily increased their lead. Leicester City Ladies did have their chances to equalise towards the end but some last minute blocks and goal line clearances from 2010 prevented this.
Full Time: Leicester City Ladies 1 Leicester City Ladies 2010 2
A below par performance from Leicester City Ladies who never really got going. Credit to 2010 who coped with the windy conditions far better and defended their lead solidly once in front.

Comfortable Win

Leicester City Ladies upheld their unbeaten league record with a comfortable win against Oadby & Wigston United. The windy conditions did not help the game with both teams struggling to get hold of the ball. Leicester City Ladies did put some good passing moves together but just lacked the finishing touch. Oadby & Wigston United played some nice football but did not really threaten the Leicester goal. Leicester City Ladies did manage to sneak ahead before half time when a corner from Jade deflected over the line off a defender.
Half Time: Oadby And Wigston United 0 Leicester City Ladies 1
Leicester City Ladies were playing with the wind in the second half and were pretty much camped in the Oadby & Wigston half for thirty minutes. Leicester City Ladies created numerous chances but only managed to convert one, when striker Jade poked home from close range to make it 2-0.
Full Time: Oadby and Wigston United 0 Leicester City Ladies 2
Overall a very good win for Leicester in what was a scrappy game. I am sure both teams would agree that this was not their best performance but at this late stage of the season the points are what matters for Leicester.

Brilliant Result

After three weeks witout a game due to the bad weather Leicester Cit Ladies faced another tough game against a strong Bedworth team.
The game started very evenly with both teams struggling to get any passing moves going. The game was very competitive in all areas of the pitch, with both teams showing why they are competing for the league title. Both teams had a few half chances, the best of Leicester’s came when Foxy hit the woodwork after a great pass from Eleni. Leicester’s defence were playing really well and limited Bedworth’s chances on goal. However Bedworth did break the deadlock just before half time when a great corner was headed home from close range.
Half Time – Bedworth 1 Leicester City Ladies 0
Leicester City Ladies were confident at half time that they could get back into the game and they started the half well, stringing some good passing moves together. For all of Leicester City Ladies efforts and with Bedworth defending well it looked like the might be one of those days. But Leicester showed their character and with fifteen minutes to go Foxy headed the ball into the path of Jade who finished brilliantly to equalise. This goal spurred Leicester City Ladies on and within five minutes they were in front when Jade once again showed her brilliance in front of goal to finish calmly after another good pass from Foxy. Leicester City Ladies were really on top now and Lauren sealed the three points late on with a confident finish after a third assist for Foxy. There was still time for some drama when Bedworth were awarded a penalty in injury time, the Bedworth player struck the penalty well but Leicester goalkeeper Viv made a strong save tp preserve Leicester’s two goal lead.
Full Time – Bedworth 1 Leicester City Ladies 3
A fantastic result for Leicester City Ladies, who showed great character to come back from 1-0 down at half time. Leicester City Ladies once again proved their quality and the fantastic team spirit that they have within the squad. With some tough games coming up in the next few weeks Leicester will need to keep up this level of performance.

American Adventure

Leicester City Ladies and Grange Celtic squads after the gameLeicester City Ladies Under 13’s were invited to play Grange Celtic from Chicago at Repton School in Derbyshire. The game was Leicester City Ladies Under 13’s first game as a 11 a side team and was played 40 minutes each way so provided the girls with a tough ask. Grange Celtic had a squad of 20 to rotate and Leicester City Ladies had 13 which included 3 “guest players” who were Katy from Oadby & Wigston Rovers, Emily from Oadby Owls and Olivia from 2010.
The game started in the worst possible fashion for Leicester as the American team took a first minute lead after a mistake by the Leicester defence. This rocked the girls as Grange Celtic were proving a very strong side. However Leicester City Ladies started to get into the game and Emily from Oadby Owls scored with a superb 25 yard free kick to level the scores at 1-1. The first half was a very even affair although Leicester City Ladies had the better chances with Jade narrowly failing to convert 3 half chances. At half time a draw was a fair score line and the girls had matched the American girls all the way.
HT Leicester Ladies 1 Grange Celtic 1
However the 2nd half was to prove a different story. In the first 10 minutes Grange Celtic went up the gears and totally dominated the game with their slick passing and attacking play. Their energy and fitness was something our girls had never come up against before and it was no surprise when the American girls scored 2 goals to take a 3-1 lead. However the girls dug in and to their credit got back into the game and could have made it 3-2 late on but Jade again was agonisingly close with an effort.

Leicester City Ladies Squad: Viv, Shania, Emily (Oadby Owls) 1 goal, Olivia (2010), Beth, Foxy, Lauren, Tamzin, Olivia, Jade, Molly, Katy (Oadby & Wigston Rovers) and Chloe

The game was played with a great spirit and both sets of players gave it their all. The Grange Celtic’s manager praised our performance and commented on what a tough game they had given his team. The American girls play football all year round ads they play indoor football in the winter and outdoor football in the summer so were much fitter and that showed in the final result. Both sets of players mixed together over lunch for an hour afterwards and got on very well. Hopefully a trip to Chicago could be on the cards in 2 years.

Stalemate In Battling Display

Leicester City Ladies drew 0-0 away to 3rd place Bedworth Gems in a tough, battling game played in atrocious conditions on a mud bath of a pitch. The 1st half was a very even affair with both teams very committed with chances on goal were rare. Both defences and midfield battled and battled and there was no quarter given.

Half Time Bedworth Gems 0 Leicester Ladies 0

The 2nd half was very much like the 1st half with again both sides battling hard and giving it their all. Lauren had a couple of long range efforts that went wide and the goalkeeper saved superbly from the two chances that Jade had. With the pitch taking its toll a 0-0 scoreline was an inevitable and fair result as both sides defences stayed solid with Eleni shading it as p-layer of the match with her best performance for the team.

Acting Manager Clive Garner would like to congratulate both sets of teams for their never say die attitude on a poor pitch in bad conditions. Victory in Top of Table Clash

Leicester City Ladies under 13s faced Bedworth Eagles for the 2nd week running and were out for revenge after Bedworth knocked them out of the League Cup the previous week.

The game started at a very high tempo with Bedworth Eagles having the first chance within minutes of the kick off which they failed to convert. Leicester City Ladies then started to come into the game more and striker Jade settled everyone’s nerves with a goal in the 10th minute. This goal spurred Leicester City Ladies on and three minutes later they were 2-0 up, a great touch inside from Olivia set Jade up for a shot which she finished brilliantly, giving the goalkeeper no chance. Leicester City Ladies continued to play well and create chances throughout the first half and Bedworth Eagles had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping them in the game with a string of good saves.

Half time: Leicester City Ladies 2 Bedworth Eages 0

Leicester City Ladies always knew that Bedworth Eagles would come out strong in the 2nd half and they did just that. The game was very tough, physical and competitive all over the pitch and Leicester City Ladies had to match Bedworth Eagles which they did. Both teams struggled to get many passing moves going and the game became quite scrappy. Bedworth Eagles did have one chance to get back into the game but the shot skimmed the post and was cleared. Leicester City Ladies continued to battle hard and looked dangerous on the break with captain Lauren, hitting the post after a good individual run. Leicester City Ladies did eventually score their 3rd goal of the game when Foxy struck the ball into the bottom corner with 5 minutes to go.

League Cup Exit

Leicester City Ladies hosted Bedworth Eagles looking to progress and retain the League cup that they won last season.

Leicester City Ladies were the better team for the first 20 mins and had numerous one on one chances which they failed to convert. On sixteen minutes Bedworth Eagles were awarded a controversial penalty. The penalty was well taken and gave Leicester City Ladies goalkeeper Viv no chance.

The second half saw Leicester City Ladies come closest again with both Jade and Molly unlucky not to score from free kicks. With Bedworth Eagles sitting deep and trying to defend their lead Leicester City Ladies had a change of formation to try to have an impact on the game. Unfortunately Bedworth Eagles were strong and well organised and they held on for the win.

Back in the Groove

Leicester Ladies faced a Rugby Town Girls team in their first game since the beginning of December. Leicester City Ladies started the game on fire and were soon in total control. An excellent chip by Lauren in the 3rd minute settled the side down and started off a scoring spree with an excellent 1st half display. Foxy scored 2 goals in the 7th and 11th minutes and looked very lively on the left wing. Jade was on fire and scored 4 goals on the bounce in the 11th, 20th, 23rd and 29th minutes to give Leicester City Ladies a deserved 7-0 lead with an excellent 1st half display.

With the game won in the first half it gave an opportunity for all of the players to have a good run out with Captain Lauren rested, due to illness. Tamzin, Olivia, Molly Chloe and Foxy held the midfield together in her absence and continued Leicester City Ladies dominance of the game. Jade continued where she had left off in the first half and made it 8-0 in the 34th minute. Chloe made it 9-0 on 37 minutes and Tamzin 10-0 on 41 minutes to cap good performances from the pair. Rugby to their credit dug in and scored a consolation goal in the 43rd minute and Viv pulled off 2 outstanding saves to keep the score 10-1. Jade scored her double hat trick goal in the 47th minute and Foxy completed her hat trick in the 52 minutes to secure a very impressive 12-1 win.

Two Points Dropped

Leicester City Ladies faced Harborough Town in their penultimate match before the Christmas Break.
The game was played in really cold and windy conditions and Harborough Town coped far better than Leicester City Ladies making the game a very even affair.
The Final score finished 3-3, which was a fair result at the end of a hard fought game. Leicester City Ladies goalscorers were Chloe, Molly and Foxy.
A disappointing display from Leicester City Ladies after some great results in recent weeks. The final game before Christmas sees a visit from Barwell, giving Leicester the perfect chance to get back to winning ways.

Crucial Win

The big games continued to come thick and fast for Leicester City Ladies Under 13s as they entertained Oadby & Wigston Rovers, who have only dropped 3 points so far.
Both teams started the game at a high tempo but the wet and windy conditions meant that the game was very scrappy. Oadby & Wigston Rovers were well organised and very competitive in all areas of the pitch and there was very little to choose between the teams. Leicester City Ladies were working hard all over the pitch with Tamzin once again playing the holding midfield role brilliantly, working tirelessly to gain possession. Leicester City Ladies looked good going forward but could not quite find the killer pass. Oadby & Wigston Rovers also created chances and a mix up in the Leicester City Ladies defence gifted them a chance and only the post kept Leicester on level terms.
Half Time: Leicester City Ladies 0 Oadby & Wigston Rovers 0
Leicester City Ladies started the second half very brightly and created chances from the off. Striker Jade was thwarted on a few occasions by some good saves from the Oadby & Wigston Rovers goalie. Leicester City Ladies were playing much better football now with Lauren finding space in the middle of the pitch to pick out her passes. Leicester City Ladies could not make their pressure count though and with fifteen minutes to go they had goalkeeper Viv to thank once again when she made a great save to deny Oadby & Wigston Rovers. The game had 0-0 written all over it but Leicester City Ladies had other ideas. With just five minutes to go Jade gave them the lead after good work from Lauren. This goal was hard to take for Oadby & Wigston Rovers, who had worked so hard throughout the game to keep Leicester City Ladies at bay. Leicester City Ladies capitalised on this and Jade scored an amazing individual goal two minutes later, showing her determination as well as her talent and skill. With just one minute remaining Leicester City Ladies scored their third of the game when Olivia finished confidently for a well deserved goal.
Final Score: Leicester City Ladies 3 Oadby & Wigston Rovers 0
This is a great result for Leicester City Ladies and it sees them cement their place at the top of the league. The pleasing thing was that Leicester City Ladies kept going until the end and got their rewards with three late goals. Credit to Oadby & Wigston Rovers who made this a very even and competitive game, played in the right spirit by both sets of players.

Through to the County Cup Final

Leicester City Ladies faced an unknown quantity when they came up against Castle Donington in the County Cup Semi Final.
Both teams started the game strongly, showing their attacking intent and attacking with pace and purpose. Leicester City Ladies took the lead in the 6th minute when Jade finished well after a good pass from Lauren. On 12 minutes Leicester City Ladies doubled their lead when striker Jade got her 2nd goal of the game. The game was still very much in the balance and Leicester City Ladies had goalkeeper Viv to thank once again when she made a brave save at the feet of the striker, injuring herself in the process. Castle Donington were proving to be a handful, in particular their strong skilful winger who was causing Leicester problems. Leicester City Ladies rode their luck and this time it was the post that came to their rescue. Leicester City Ladies created chances of their own with some great passing moves involving wingers Olivia and Tamzin but unfortunately couldn’t find a way past the Castle Donington goalkeeper who was having a great game.
Half Time: Leicester City Ladies 2 Castle Donington 0
Leicester City Ladies couldn’t have wished for a better start to the second half when straight from the kick off Jade played a perfect pass to Lauren who brought the ball down and finished brilliantly past the helpless keeper. Leicester City Ladies really should have pushed on and put the game to bed but despite their domination of the possession they couldn’t make it count. All credit to Castle Donington who continued to break with pace looking for a goal.
Leicester City Ladies were looking shaky in defence and when they failed to clear the ball they were rightly punished by the Castle Donington striker who finished well.
Not long after,Castle Donington pulled another goal back with a well taken penalty. At this point Leicester City Ladies were ruing the chances they had missed but showed their character and team spirit when almost immediately Jade scored Leicester’s 4th and completed her hat-trick. With Tamzin playing the midfield holding role brilliantly, Leicester City Ladies looked a lot more solid when defending and this allowed them more freedom going forward. Chloe was having her best game of the season at right midfield and was bringing others into the game with some good passing. Leicester City Ladies dominated the last 10 minutes and added 2 more goals, both coming from Jade.

This was a really competitive game of football between two good teams. It was played in the right spirit by all and was a pleasure to watch. 7th League Win

Oadby Owls were the visitors to Babington College this week and a competitive game was expected with both teams having a good start to the league campaign.
The first ten minutes of the game was very scrappy with Leicester City Ladies really struggling to get a foothold on the tempo of the game. Oadby Owls were definatley on top at this point and created some half chances which they failed to convert. In the 12th minute Leicester took the lead when Lauren won the ball from an Oadby goal kick, passed it out to Tamzin on the left wing who delivered the perfect cross for Lauren to slot the ball into the back of the net. Just 5 minutes later Molly’s long throw was flicked on by Lauren into the path of striker Jade who finished from close range to make it 2-0. The game remained very even and became a bit of a midfield battle with both teams struggling to create any clear cut chances. Oadby were strong in the tackle and very organised making it hard work for Leicester to play their normal passing game.
Half Time: Leicester City Ladies 2 Oadby Owls 0
Leicester City Ladies made some changes at half time and were looking to build on their first half performance. It didn’t go quite to plan for Leicester as Oadby Owls hit back with a well taken goal 10 minutes into the second half. Leicester then had goalkeeper Viv to thank when she made a string of brave saves to keep them in the game. At this point Leicester were all over the place and Oadby’s strength and determination was causing them problems all over the pitch. With 10 minutes to go Leicester were awarded a free kick just outside of the penalty area. Jade stepped up confidently and lifted the ball into the top corner to give the goalkeeper no chance, settling Leicester’s nerves with the goal of the season so far. This 3rd goal allowed Leicester some breathing space and they managed to see out the game without too many problems.

Solid Win

Leicester City Ladies faced Asfordby Amateurs in their first game after two weeks off on a cold and rainy Sunday Morning.
Leicester City Ladies started the game fairly well and began to create chances from the start. They had to be switched on in defence though as Asfordby Amateurs were quick going forward. Leicester City Ladies defender Beth did a fantastic job of keeping their best player at bay. Leicester City Ladies did take the lead through captain Lauren after a good pass from Molly, with Foxy adding a second shortly after. The game became very scrappy in midfield with both teams struggling to get hold of the ball. Lauren then made the game 3-0 with a touch of individual brilliance from a position that looked impossible to score. Olivia was then unlucky not to score after a good cross from Tamzin. Striker Jade eventually made 4-0, much to her relief after seeing numerous shots saved or go narrowly wide earlier in the game. Asfordby Amateurs themselves had chances to score but Leicester City Ladies goalkeeper Viv was alert to make some good saves.
Half Time: Asfordby Amateurs 0 Leicester City Ladies 4
Asfordby Amateurs came out fighting in the second half and starting to put Leicester’s defence under pressure. The girls stood up to the task fairly well and had their own chances to increase their lead further which they unfortunately they could not take. The second half remained very even with both teams cancelling each other out.

A bit of a scrappy game for Leicester which was maybe to be expected after 2 weeks without a game. Another good win though and an exciting few weeks of league games and County Cup Semi Final for the girls.

Through to Semis

Leicester City Ladies battled through a tough quarter final against a much improved Barwell & Burbage side. From the off Barwell & Burbage battled and stopped Leicester’s usual attacking flair. However one player they couldn’t stop was Leicester City Ladies captain Lauren who settled her sides early nerves with two well taken goals in the 8th and 13th minutes and battled away to get Leicester City Ladies going. This settled Leicester City Ladies down and they started to play much better. Jade carried on her excellent goalscoring form and scored two quick goals in the 18th and 19th minutes to put Leicester firmly in the driving seat. Shania, playing in an unfamiliar centre midfield role for her, scored a superb individual goal in the 22nd minute and went on to have a solid game.
Half Time – Barwell & Burbage 0 Leicester City Ladies 5
The second half started much the same as the first with Barwell & Burbage battling away. Jade completed her hat trick in the 36th minute but Barwell & Burbage still kept plugging away and it took 2 brave saves from Viv to keep the clean sheet. The goal of the game came in the 44th minute when Molly hit an unstoppable twenty yard shot which flew into the roof of the net. Solid defending by the defence throughout and another good save from Viv in the last ten minutes enabled another clean sheet to be kept for Leicester City Ladies.

Lucky 13

Leicester City Ladies faced newcomers to the league Attleborough Sports in their fourth league game of the season. Unfortunately Attleborough Sports were only able to field 7 players due to illness which meant it was a very one sided game.
Leicester City Ladies came out of the blocks quickly and were three up inside ten minutes with a hat trick from striker Jade. Lauren and Foxy both added two goals each before half time with Leicester City Ladies playing some good football. In the 25th minute Attleborough Sports got a free kick which deflected into the Leicester net to make it 7-1. Despite only having 7 players Attleborough Sports looked to go forward and their lively captain was causing some problems for Leicester City Ladies with her pace and determination. Leicester City Ladies managed to add one more goal before half time with a quality finish from Olivia.
Half Time: Attleborough Sports 1 LCLFC 8
Leicester City Ladies started the second half in the same vein but Atlleborough Sports continued to battle and never made it easy for Leicester. Tamzin scored a fantastic individual goal to make it 9-1 on 33 minutes and Jade and Lauren added a goal each soon after to take Leicester into double figures. With only a few minutes remaining and Attleborough Sports tiring badly Foxy scored two good goals, one coming from a fantastic pass from Megan and the other a fine individual goal.

3 out of 3

In their third league game of the season Leicester City Ladies faced their rivals from last season Oadby & Wigston United. Leicester City Ladies were high on confidence going into the game after their impressive start to the season but knew that this would be a test for them.
The first five minutes were very scrappy from both teams with Oadby & Wigston United just edging it. Leicester City Ladies settled their nerves on seven minutes with the first goal of the game when Molly’s left foot shot flew into the top corner. Just a few minutes later Jade doubled Leicester City Ladies lead with a cool finish after the an inch perfect through ball from Tamzin. Leicester City Ladies were now playing a lot better and having more possession of the ball, on sixteen minutes Leicester made it 3-0 when the Oadby & Wigston United goalkeeper was unable to hold onto a fierce shot from Lauren. Leicester City Ladies defended solidly, worked hard for each other and continued to create chances on goal, they got their just rewards when on twenty three minutes Foxy got their fourth with a good finish. Leicester City Ladies were unlucky not to extend their lead further going close on numerous occasions.
Half Time: LCLFC 4 Oadby & Wigston United 0
Leicester City Ladies knew that Oadby & Wigston United would come out fighting in the second half and they did just that. They were having more of the ball and putting Leicester City Ladies under a bit of pressure, Leicester still looked dangerous going forward and striker Jade, who had caused problems all game got Leicester’s fifth goal on forty two minutes. This seemed to spur Oadby & Wigston United on and they began pushing forward looking for a goal, which they deservedly got in the forty seventh minute. Leicester City Ladies goalkeeper Viv then made a brilliant save at the feet of the Oadby & Wigston United player to prevent any further goals. Oadby & Wigston United were definitely on top now but Leicester City Ladies continued to battle until the end.
Final Score:LCLFC 5 Oadby & Wigston United 1

A fantastic first half performance from Leicester City Ladies effectively won the game. The second half was scrappy and lacked the quality we are used to seeing from Leicester City Ladies but that should not take away from a great win and an important three points.

Safe Progress in County Cup

This week saw Leicester City Ladies face Harborough Town in the 1st round of the Couty Cup in one of only two ties.
Leicester City Ladies started the first ten minutes very slowly and really struggled to get their normal passing going. Leicester City Ladies finally came to life after fifteen minutes when Foxy put them in front and Lauren soon doubled their lead after a good corner from Laura dropped to her on the edge of the box. Strikers Tamzin and Olivia were both working hard to try and make chances but the Harborough Town defence were tough and made it very hard for them. Leicester City Ladies made it 3 with the best move of the game, a slick passing move ended with an inch perfect finish from Lauren, giving the goalkeeper no chance. Leicester City Ladies were now having their best spell of the game and were unlucky not to increase their lead further, hitting both the post and the bar in a matter of seconds! Harborough Town continued to battle and made Leicester City Ladies work for every ball.
Half Time: LCLFC 3 Harborough Town 0
The second half started much the same as the first with Leicester City Ladies slightly off the pace and struggling to find any consistency. The game became a bit of a battle which suited Harborough Town much more. Leicester City Ladies switched off and Harborough Town looked a lot sharper going forward, Leicester’s defence stood firm and goalkeeper Viv stayed on her toes and was on hand to make saves when needed. Leicester City Ladies were still enjoying the majority of the possession but their final ball was letting them down. Leicester City Ladies did finally get their fourth goal when Foxy followed in her own shot which the goalie fumbled and Foxy was on hand to head home.

Perfect Start for Under 13s

Leicester City Ladies started the new season with a visit from league newcomers Bedworth Eagles Gems.
The first ten minutes were scrappy with neither team getting hold of the ball. Leicester City Ladies did make the break through after twelve minutes when Olivia scored from long range. Leicester City Ladies were really playing well at this point and Bedworth Eagles were struggling to cope with the speed and quality of Leicester’s play. The fourth goal came from Tamzin on her league début and was thoroughly deserved after some fantastic work down the left hand side. Leicester City Ladies fifth and sixth goals both came before half time with Jade completing her hat trick with a good finish and a well taken header.
Half Time: LCLFC 6 Bedworth Eagles Gems 0
As expected Bedworth Eagles came out fighting in the second half and made the game much more difficult for Leicester. Important Three Points

Leicester City Ladies under 12s faced Asfordby Amateurs this week in what turned out to be a competitive game against a much improved side.

On five minutes striker Olivia made a great run down the right wing and provided a perfect cross for captain Lauren who finished from close range to give Leicester City Ladies a well deserved lead. Half time: Asfordby 0 LCLFC 1
Once again Leicester City Ladies created chances on goal from the off in the second half and striker Jade must of thought it wasn’t to be her day as she uncharacteristically put two one on ones wide of the post. Asfordby Amateurs battled hard and looked lively going forward showing good skill on the ball and Leicester City Ladies had to stay on their toes.
Eventually seventeen minutes into the second half Lauren doubled Leicester City Ladies lead after good work from Jade. Leicester City Ladies then seemed to settle and Jade finally got herself a goal which was much deserved after a quality all round performance. Just as Leicester thought the game was up Asfordby Amateurs caught them napping and grabbed a goal back three minutes into injury time. After a further four minutes injury time and Asfordby Amateurs doubled their goal tally with another sloppy goal from Leicester City Ladies perspective.
Final score: Asfordby 2 LCLFC 3

On seventeen minutes Lauren deservedly increased Leicester’s lead with a great goal. The windy conditions did not help as both teams continued to cancel each other out.

They dominated possession but just could not get the ball in the back of the net, Jade hit the bar with a long range shot and just before the whistle Lauren hit the post.
