Leicester City Women FC 7 a side tournament

The Under 15’s entered this 7 a side tournament and played in the U16’s age group.
The girls played in a group with teams from Syston Town ( x2 ) and Barwell & Burbage.
The girls played Syston 1 in the first game and won a hard fought game 1 nil.
The second group game was against Syston 2, the girls found themselves 2 nil down early in the game. Despite a much better second half the scoreline remained 2 nil to Syston.
So to the final group game against Barwell & Burbage who had beaten both Syston teams in their first 2 games.
The girls looked to attack from the off and the girls were 2 nil up by half time. The girls saw out the second half and the scoreline remained 2 nil.
With 3 teams finishing level on points , the girls missed out on topping the group by 1 goal.
So in the semi final the girls played Barwell & Burbage again.
In a tight first half Megan nipped in to finish well after hesitancy in the Barwell defence. So the girls took a 1 nil lead into half time.
After an early goal at the start of the second half the girls produced some fantastic football scoring 3 more goals. So goals from Megan,Rebecca 3 and Indiana saw the girls through to the final after a 5 nil win, where they would play Syston 2.
In the final the girls took an early lead through another good finish from Megan.By half time Syston had sored 2 goals to go in 2 – 1 up.The girls got to grips with the game in the second half and started to play some good football again creating numerous good chances but for the performance of the Syston goalkeeper the girls may have turned the game around. But they were unable to add to the scoreline so the game finished 2 – 1 to Syston.
A great effort from all the girls playing against teams who were U16’s last season.

The team are looking for players to strengthen the squad for the new season ahead. Any girls who are interested should contact the manager Nathan Worrall by phone 07542741260 or e-mail under16@lclfc.co.uk

Under 15s at the King Power

18315539391_3dd35b7892_mThe Under 15’s took a squad of eight players for this six a side tournament. Six teams made up the group with teo Leicester City Ladies teams, two from Oadby & Wigston and two from Syston Town.
The girls won their first game 2 – 1 against Syston Town A. Two nil nil draws followed against Leicester City Ladies Diamonds and Syston Town B.
A one nil win against Oadby & Wigston B set up the final group game against Oadby & Wigston A to decide the winners and runners up of the group stage.
A very close game was played out with the girls taking the lead but Oadby & Wigston came back strongly and won the game 2 – 1.
The girls played some great football to finish second in the group with a record of, played 5, won 2, drew 2, lost 1.
So to the semi finals and the girls played Syston Town A who they had played in the first game. With very few clear cut chances in the game, it finished nil nil, so with no extra time it was straight to a penalty shoot out. Which finished 3 – 3 after five penalties each , so it went to sudden death and Syston won through on the day.
It was tough on the girls who had only lost one game in open play, but that’s tournament football.
All of the girls should be proud of their efforts on the day.
The players and two coaches thoroughly enjoyed the day and the opportunity to play and coach at the King Power Stadium.

The team are looking for players to strengthen the squad for the new season ahead. Any girls who are interested should contact the manager Nathan Worrall by phone 07542741260 or email

Season Review

Under15-2014-15
Squad
Alizeh, Chloe, Danni, Emily, Emma, Isabelle, Jashika, Jaskirat, Louise, Lucy, Maya, Megan, Munashe, Priyanka, Rebecca.
As the season approached it was very doubtful whether we would have a team to play in the Leicester City & County Girls Football League.
When we were scheduled to play our first League game we had eight registered players. After a lot of hard work from some of the fantastic volunteers within LCLFC we were able to bring in seven new players who we had to get registered by the end of September or withdraw from the League an ultimatum issued by the League.
So the Under 15’s played the first League game at the end of September instead of the planned opening fixture at the end of August.
Having had to postpone the fixtures for September, despite being given that time to get a team together by the League, we were fined for postponing two of those games, this also left us facing a fine if we postponed any further games throughout the season (more on that later).
So on the 28th September the League season began with a home game against Oadby Owls. After a bright start to the game the girls took the lead but by the end were well beaten by a very strong Oadby Owls team.
After getting that first League game played it was to be another two weeks before the girls played again against the eventual League champions Oadby & Wigston Rovers, where the girls suffered their heaviest defeat of the season.
It was to be another three weeks before the girls played again, in the League against Leicester City Ladies Diamonds in what was one of the teams best performances of the season but ended in defeat by the odd goal. A week later and the girls picked up their first point of the season away to Asfordby where it was felt by the two coaches that it should have been the teams first win.
With games planned for most Sundays throughout November and December it was hoped the team would keep up this level of performance but three postponements on the trot meant only one game was played between mid November and Christmas.
With 13 League games to be played from January to April plus League cup fixtures, this caused issues on a number of occasions with the availability of players, the team played twice 10 v 11 and in one game played 9 v 11.
In what was a very tough season this group of girls showed in certain games what they are capable of playing some good football. With so many new players joining the group it was always going to be difficult to find that consistency, coming up against players and teams who have been playing for 3, 4 or 5 years.
The team eventually finished 9th in the League.
Semi finalists in the League Cup.
Quarter Finalists in the County Cup.
A special mention to Lucy, Louise, Chloe, Emily, Megan and Rebecca who stuck with this team, along with Isabelle and Danni helped the 7 new girls to the game, settle in to competitive football.
As manager the most pleasing thing this season was the development shown by all of the girls and especially the four who took their first steps into senior football, well done to Lucy,Emily,Chloe and Rebecca for playing for the LCLFC development team.

Diamonds Win Close Encounter

Leicester City Ladies Diamonds beat their fellow sister team Leicester City Ladies 1-0 in a closely fought contest. The first half was very competitive with both teams huffing and puffing but with not a lot of chances being created. The one good chance fell to the Diamonds when Lauren went on a surging run, rounding the keeper and it looked a certain goal but was superbly cleared off the line by a defender. Safe handling by the Leicester Ladies keeper kept any Diamonds attacks at bay.

The 2nd half was also a very competitive half. The Diamonds began to show a bit more urgency and Jenna put them in the lead with a close range shot. Diamonds had a few more chances with Lauren hitting the bar and Laura having a shot cleared off the line. For all their pressure Diamonds couldn’t put the game to bed and a good move by Leicester Ladies saw a good shot saved by Jocelyn. The game ended in a 1-0 win to the Diamonds and credit must go to both sides for playing a competitive game in the right spirit. Both teams seem to be going in the right direction.

Home Win

Leicester City Ladies started this game on the front foot and did not have to wait long before taking the lead. After good work down the left Natasha sent in a low cross which went all the way to the far post, where Jenna forced the ball into the net to give Leicester City Ladies the lead. Leicester went further in front when Jenna was fouled on the right hand side of the penalty area, after speaking to the linesman the referee awarded Leicester a penalty. Olivia stepped up and made no mistake to give Leicester a 2 goal lead. Leicester City Ladies were playing some good football now with Ella, Becky and Rebecca combining well in midfield. While D’shayney and Michelle kept things tight at the back, preventing the lively Cosby attack from getting a clean strike on the Leicester goal.

Megan picked the ball up just outside the Cosby area, as she made her way into the box she shot with the keeper saving her initial effort Megan was first to the loose ball and scored from the rebound. Leicester City Ladies continued to push forward with Natasha attacking down the left, her cross cum shot finding the back of the net. With time running out Leicester City Ladies went forward looking for more goals. Olivia received the ball in midfield and ran toward the Cosby area, once inside the penalty area Olivia shot to the keepers left to round off the scoring.

Away Defeat

After the previous weeks defeat to Bedworth Eagles, Leicester City Ladies (2010) travelled to play Bedworth Eagles Gems in what proved to be a very tough game.
Leicester City Ladies took a while to get going and struggled to create clear cut chances, when they did get passed the Bedworth Eagles defence they came up against an in form goalkeeper.
Leicester City Ladies had to be on their toes defensively as Bedworth Eagles pushed forward, as the first half wore on both defences held firm and were on top as the game reached half time.
Half Time Bedworth Eagles Gems 0 Leicester Ladies 0
Leicester City Ladies started to have more of the game in the second half and were making chances, but a combination of good goalkeeping and wayward finishing prevented Leicester City Ladies from taking the lead.
With only a few minutes left after a mix up on Leicester’s right, Bedworth Eagles broke quickly where Leicester stopped the cross coming into the box but conceded a corner, from which a Bedworth player got the vital touch inside the six yard box to score.

Another frustrating game for Leicester City Ladies (2010). After a poor first half the girls where much better in the second and with better finishing should have taken something from this game.

Penalty Heartbreak

Leicester City Ladies 2010 went into this game on the back of a good win the previous week, but were slow to get going with Oadby Owls starting the game much better.
In a lacklustre first half Leicester City Ladies were riding their luck as Oadby Owls were denied the lead by hitting the frame of the goal twice.

With the game opening up Leicester City Ladies were nearly caught out as Oadby Owls hit the woodwork for a third time, with a shot from distance.
Leicester City Ladies had chances to increase their lead as they broke clear of Oadby Owls defence but shot wide and were denied by an in form goalkeeper.
With only a few minutes left the ball was played into the Leicester penalty area, where an Oadby Owls player was first to react after a defensive mix up and scored from close range.

With the game now into extra time both sides went forward in search of a winner. But neither side were able to add to the scoring, so this quarter final was to be decided from the penalty spot.
Oadby Owls went on to win the penalty shoot out 3-1.
Leicester City Ladies 2010 squad: Lucy, D’shayney, Chloe, Emily, Ella, Holly, Michelle, Jenna, Olivia, Megan, Dannielle and Isabelle.
A great advert for girls football, a very close game between two evenly matched teams who have both improved so much since last season.
From Leicester City Ladies 2010’s perspective a much improved second half, a very disappointing way to concede the equaliser so late in the game.
Leicester City Ladies 2010 now look forward to their next league game in 3 weeks.

Disappointing Defeat

Leicester City Ladies (2010) v Bedworth Eagles Girls

In what proved to be a very close game Leicester City Ladies were slow to get going but there were few chances for both teams. Leicester City Ladies came close to opening the scoring when Emily won the ball in midfeild and played the ball to Jenna on the right of the penalty area, Jennas shot was parried by the keeper but Megan couldn’t force the loose ball goalwards.
Leicester City Ladies were made to pay for this as Bedworth won a throw in deep in the Leicester half, from which Bedworth crossed into the box which went in at the near post.
Half Time:Leicester Ladies 0 Bedworth Eagles 1
The second half carried on, similar to the first as both teams were cancelling each other out in a midfield battle. When the strikers got near goal both defences stood firm. Leicester City Ladies were made to pay again as they switched off after a Bedworth throw in, the ball was half cleared, where the Bedworth player sent a high ball into the Leicester area, after a high bounce the ball ended up in the Leicester net. With time running out Leicester City Ladies pushed forward to try and get something from the game. Olivia broke from midfield battling with the Bedworth defender, the referee awarded Leicester a free kick on the left hand side just outside of the Bedworth penalty area. Chloe stepped up and took the free kick sending it over the wall and into the roof of the net. With only a few minutes left time ran out as Leicester went in search of an equaliser.

Despite the scoreline another good performance from the girls. Who on another day may have won this game by the odd goal.

Solid Home Win

Leicester City Ladies were looking to build on the previous weeks opening day victory with a home game against AFC Barwell.
Both teams were cancelling each other out in the early stages, but as the half wore on Leicester City Ladies started to use the width of the pitch with Natasha on the left and Jenna on the right. Natasha unlucky not to open the scoring after meeting a cross from Jenna, her shot just clearing the crossbar. After more good work on the right from Jenna, Megan just could not get on the end of the cross into the penalty area. At the other end of the pitch the Leicester City Ladies defence stood firm and protected their goal with some strong defending and timely tackles.
Half Time Leicester City Ladies (2010) 0 AFC Barwell 0
Leicester City Ladies could not have wished for a better start to the second half as Olivia returned a goal kick straight back into the bottom right hand corner, 1-0 to Leicester. Within ten minutes of the restart Olivia had completed her hat trick, her second a cool low finish into the bottom left corner, to complete her hat trick she was first to a bouncing ball in the AFC Barwell area and headed over the keeper to make it 3-0. Leicester City Ladies went on to score a fourth through Megan with a calm low strike from inside the area. Not to be outdone by her sister Chloe then rounded off the scoring with a neat finish after picking the ball up outside the area and driving into the penalty box to score.

Another good performance from the girls who defended strongly and took their chances in the second half. The girls should take confidence from the first two games into the rest of the season. The new players who have joined us are settling in to league football and as a squad the girls are adapting to the nine aside format.

Opening Day Win

Leicester City Ladies (2010) travelled to Harborough Town for their first league fixture of the new season.
Both teams settled into the game, but as the half wore on Leicester City Ladies started to have more possession and were testing the Harborough Town defence and goalkeeper. County Cup Defeat

The same player scored a further 2 goals as the Leicester City Ladies (2010) started to tire towards the end of the game.

Despite the scoreline this was a much improved performance from the Leicester City Ladies (2010) side. The game was a lot closer than the scoreline would suggest thanks to a great effort from all the girls as they continue to improve with each game they play.
Leicester City Ladies (2010) squad Megan, Jodie, Emily, Olivia, Keely, Beth, Natasha and Shelby.
Leicester City Ladies (2010) player of the match Emily, great performance in defence and midfield.

Heavy Defeat

After a week without a game and having to play this game without regular goalkeeper Megan Leicester City Ladies (2010) knew it was going to be a tough fixture.
Leicester City Ladies (2010) did not help themselves in the first half of this game the basics seemed to go out of the window with Asfordby Amateurs attacking straight through the middle of the pitch and scoring at will.
By half time Asfordby Amateurs had scored 6 goals without reply with the Leicester City Ladies team giving Shelby the stand in keeper very little protection.
After the half time break with the game out of reach for Leicester City Ladies started to defend as a team and went forward to try and get something out of this match.
As Leicester City Ladies went forward Asfordby Amateurs got behind the defence on a couple of occasions where Emily produced 2 great saves to deny her side conceding any further goals.
As the game was coming towards its end Natasha attacked down the left for Leicester City Ladies passing to Shelby in the Asfordby Amateurs penalty area, who she calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make the final score Asfordby Amateurs 6 Leicester City Ladies (2010) 1
Leicester City Ladies manager Nathan Worrall commented after the game “A game of two halves. Much better in the second half, the girls need to start games how they finished this one to give themselves a chance. A lot to learn from a lacklustre first half.”

Player of the match Natasha worked hard up and down the left hand side throughout this game, with a special mention to stand in keepers Shelby and Emily neither of whom wanted to play in goal but for their efforts the scoreline could have been worse.

Leicester Lose Out by Odd Goal

After the previous weeks game between Leicester City Ladies and Rugby Town both teams expected goals and another five were scored in this match and it could have been more.
The fist half started well for Leicester City Ladies with Jenna, Natasha & Shelby combining well up front. It wasn’t long before Leicester City Ladies took the lead as Jenna crossed from the right and Shelby got the chance to put the ball in the net.
With Jodie, Beth and Keely defending well for Leicester City Ladies the girls pushed forward in search of a second goal, but despite creating numerous chances a second goal would not come.
