Derby Draw

Leicester City Ladies Lions went top of the league as they picked up a point in the derby match against Leicester City Ladies Tigers.
Both defences were on top in the opening minutes, Fran for the Tigers making several key interceptions with Shakeela for the Lions doing the same at the other end. Jamie almost opened the scoring for the Lions with a well hit long range shot but Beth in the Tigers goal made a fine diving two handed save. The Tigers hit back with Shannon threading an excellent through ball to Kim whose low shot was well saved by Sadie in the Lions goal. The Lions again went on the attack with ‘Minty’ working hard, Mica now on in the Tigers defence put in several excellent clearances. Shortly before half time Anna had a half chance to give the Lions the lead but found the side netting.
This left the half time score 0-0.
The Lions attacked from the whistle and quickly hit a post and nearly bundled in the rebound before Lauren cleared the ball for the Tigers. An quick counter attack down the right gave Rhea a half chance to open the scoring for the Tigers but Toyah made and excellent covering tackle. Again the Lions came back with a series of attacks but found Beth in fine form and when she was beaten Lacy was on hand to clear the ball off the line from a neat shot from ‘Mops’. Emma added some fresh legs in attack for the Tigers but could not find a way past ‘Mini’ in the Lions defence. The deadlock was finally broken just before the end of the second half when the Tigers Laura collected a throw on the edge of the box and smashed a powerful shot on the turn into the net. The Lions responded straight from the kick off when ‘CC’ finished a fine solo run with an excellent low shot. In the remaining few minutes both sides had a chance to steal the win but the final whistle left this excellent football match level at 1-1.
