End of Season

The end of the season however will be remembered for the Leicester City Ladies first County Cup final in five years and penalty kicks is all that denied them regaining the trophy the club dominated throughout the 1990s. In a great first half of the County Cup Final saw four goals with Loughborough Students replied to Kay Hilliers early double strike. From there it came a tense affair with chances at both ends and this continued into extra time. Neither team deserved to loose on penalties but sadly someone had to and a 4-2 score line took the trophy back to Students.
Leicester City Ladies Manager Matt Cook commented after the final “It’s been a horrendous season really on and off the pitch so to have that occasion makes the season memorable, the team all had their family and mini players as mascots and the support for our team at Holmes Park was overwhelming and to be quite frank it felt like a home game, the families of the players were fantastic. To miss out on penalties is hard but the performance on the day was great. Hopefully there will be more happier events like the County Cup final next year as for a good club it’s had its hard this year, I just want to thank everybody involved for all their efforts in 2014/15.”
