Great Team Performance

After their disappointing defeat at Asfordby Amateurs two weeks ago Leicester City Ladies under 11s faced a strong Oadby & Wigston United, who had beaten us 3-2 in our last meeting.
This was always going to be a close game with two good teams competing for an important three points. Leicester City Ladies started very brightly with Emily, Molly, Foxy and Lauren playing some good football in the attacking half.
We were also more switched on in defence with Megan and Eleni playing very well. Leicester City Ladies opened the scoring when a great passing move ended at the the feet of Molly who scored her first goal for Leicester City Ladies with a great finish. Leicester City Ladies continued to pressurise the Oadby & Wigston Defence, with subs Chloe and Olivia causing problems down the wings. Olivia was unlucky not to get her first goal for Leicester City Ladies with some good efforts.

Half time: Leicester City Ladies 1 Oadby & Wigston United 0

Leicester City Ladies knew that Oadby & Wigston United would come out fighting in the second half and knew that they needed to get the next goal. It came with some good work from Lauren and a great finish. Lauren then increased Leicester City Ladies lead to three goals with another top class finish.
Even at three nil Leicester City Ladies knew that the game wasn’t finished and with 10 minutes to go Oadby & Wigston United grabbed a goal back.
Leicester City Ladies responded brilliantly and Foxy scored a well deserved goal to restore Leicester’s three goal lead. The game still wasn’t finished and when Leicester City Ladies failed to clear the ball in the penalty area, Oadby & Wigston United punished them with another goal.

Final Score: Leicester City Ladies 4 Oadby & Wigston United 2

This was a great game and a good advert for girls football, with both teams giving 100% and playing the game in the correct spirits.
Top performance from Leicester City Ladies who need to carry this into their remaining games and hopefully climb up the league.

Player’s of the Match: Lauren and Ella – These two were absolutely brilliant both in attack and in defence, never stopped running all game and scored three out of four goals between them. They both play with such determination and quality.
