Leicester City Woodgate Inclusive Football Club, hosted a Football Event on the 14th June on behalf of the Special Olympics East Midlands.
The Event took place at the home of AFC Andrews, the great facility at Aylestone Recreation Ground, where Benny Irwin, Club Chairman and the owners of the 3G Sports Bar/Cafe made all the teams welcome, which was a great start to the day of football.
Teams in attendance were, Special Olympics Redditch(2 teams), Riverside FC, Mansfield Disability FC (2 teams), Blue Blazers Disability, Asfordby Amateurs Inclusive FC and our own Leicester City Woodgate Teams(6 teams).
All in all, a total of 15 teams were due to start the competition, sadly 2 teams had to pull out on the day of the event, which meant that 13 teams took part over 2 ability divisions.
The Competition was ran on a league basis, with Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal places being awarded to the top 3 teams in each Division.
Some cracking football took place from all of the teams and the games were played in a competitive yet Respectful manner.
Local referees, Bill Amen, Lottie Sparling, Ray Sharman, Andy Gilroy, Callum Timperely and Lone Millin did a great job officiating the competition and their support of Inclusive Football in Leicestershire is much appreciated.
David Morley, Chairman of East Midlands Special Olympics was present to support the event and thoroughly enjoyed watching the football and was also on hand to present the Medals to the winning teams.
All Players, Managers and Coaches were applauded for their efforts on the pitch and Respect and Fair play shown throughout the day.
