Lightening Does Strike Twice

The Midland Combination Division always gives you a tough game every week in a very competitive league but over the past three weeks Leicester City Ladies have played the top two in Stoke City Ladies and Curzon Ashton Ladies. More importantly on the day of the fixtures these teams were leading the division.
Stoke City Ladies were top two weeks ago when Leicester City Ladies secured a 2-1 away win and today we welcomed the new pace setters in Curzon Ashton Ladies to Aylestone Park.
In a very even first half chances where created at both ends and the match was played in a good spirit by both teams. Kyleigh Brant gave Leicester City Ladies the lead on twenty five minutes with a superb solo run and a near post finish.
Curzon Ashton Ladies equalised ten minutes before the interval when a deflected shot from close range hit post and went in to delight the away team. In between the two goals Leicester City Ladies felt they had a penalty shout but the referee did not agree.
Second half Leicester City Ladies took the game to the visitors, Curzon Ashton Ladies were always causing problems however City regained their lead through another fine solo effort this time Kayleigh Hillier was the scorer. Kayleigh Hillier than added to the score with a rebound finish to make it 3 1 to Leicester City Ladies and effectively and seal the game for the home side.
Curzon Ashton Ladies hit the post late on but it was Leicester City Ladies day and for the second time City had beaten the league leaders and moved themselves into contention.
Overall maybe Leicester City Ladies best team performance in terms of sticking to a successful game plan and having put so much effort in the game the result followed.
Leicester City Ladies manager Matt Cook commented after the match “The girls never surprise me these days, they are capable of being right in the mix until the end. They have not let themselves down of late with poor displays however when we have had difficulties they have reacted great. I thought the effort they put in this week in training and especially for 90 minutes today was commendable. I wouldn’t rule these girls out of surprising a few more teams before the end of the season.”
