October Round Up

The month of October was a mixed month for Leicester City Ladies but it ended perfectly.
The first week was a League Cup tie at Loughborough Students, Kayleigh Hillier gave City a goal lead before two second half strikes from the Students undone the hard work by the Leicester City Ladies.
The squad then made the long trip to Rotherham with only five first team players remaining and it showed as City went down 3-1, Hillier once again the star of the game and was on the scoresheet again for the Ladies.
After two defeats Leicester City Ladies fought out a much needed win at lowly Solihull. They had to come from behind however after a fine Annie Rudkin goal was ruled out by two set plays from the home side, Gemma Ball leveled with a near post header from a Kilby free kick just before the interval. City sealed the win with a fine battling performance in tough conditions in the second period, Whalley and Brant with the goals.
The last week in the month Leicester City Ladies revisited Loughborough Students at Hollywell Park in the league. This time the score was reversed, Becki Preston sent the away team on their way with an early goal however it was cancelled out on the half hour mark from a cross ball which caused confusion in City’s penalty box. Then came the turning point in the match, a dubious penalty was given for the home side and City’s goalkeeper Cat pulled off a fine save. Second half was very open but Leicester City Ladies looked the brighter and it paid off, Becki Preston was ever present again and she finished low and hard across the goalkeeper to give the visitors a valuable three points.
Overall a mixed month for Leicester City Ladies but a great way to finish picking up two vital away wins back to back, Manager Matt Cook commented “it’s a been tough start for us really with trying to balance the whole squad and work off the pitch but once again we are there or there abouts and I believe we will be at the finish”
Leicester City Ladies now look forward to an FA Cup tie versus neighbours Leicester Women before resuming league action with a string of home games.
